Fishing Doug Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 The looooonnnnnggggg search is over. After trying what seemed to be every line on the market the last few years I have found Gamma Copolymer. I found other lines I liked, but this is the one I love and now use it for everything except my one braid rig which currently has Power Pro but with all this talk about Sufix braid I am going to give that a try this year. KU, thinking about trying Gamma this season...I like Yo-Zuri but a lot of memory on my baitcaster in 12 lb. . Do you feel that the break strength is close to what is advertised on the Gamma website? what test size have you used and liked on baitcasters? FD Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 19, 2007 Super User Posted January 19, 2007 ww2farmer,This isn't personal and I am NOT sonsored by Yo-Zuri, but if the Ultra Soft had ANY memory, you spooled it up incorrectly. Ultra Soft, especially in the smaller diameters, has virtually NO memory in use. If there is a problem with memory, it will be 100% resolved by trolling the line after the initial spooling. When fishing #12 on baitcasting equipment, I have one complaint. Because of the fluorocarbon component, backlashes create kinks that appear to impact the physical integrity of the line. I don't know that this is actually the case, but visually, it bothers me. The fact is, I have been fishing several spools of #12 for almost a year without a single break-off. I fish #4 on the Tennessee River for smallmouth bass. Both fish in my avatar were caught on #4. I have NEVER been broken off by a fish using this line. I have NEVER been broken off by a fish using ANY Yo-Zuri line. I did not break any fish off with the Yo-Zuri line either. I too thought I had spooled it up wrong to have so much memory, but I let it all out behind the boat about 3 days after I first put it on to remove any twist I may have inflicted on the line spooling it up.......no difference, maybe the damage was done already? I do sopose it's possable that I could have got a poor/defective product, but to be honest with you I found that other than the perceived memory issue, the line was acceptable, if I were to perhaps try it again I might go to an even smaller diameter ...........say 4lb on spinning and 8 on casting, maybe?? My complaint on this line with casting gear was/is the same as yours, the backlash kinks, also I disliked the line for crankbaits, it made smaller baits a real fiasco to cast (soemthing I can do easy with the same rod/reel with mono). I use braid on all my casting rigs except my cranking rods, that is where I tried hybrid US and went back to mono. Just not the line for me I guess. Quote

FD If you like Yo-Zuri, I think you will like this a little more. IMO, it's a step above Yo-Zuri across the board. And yes it's e very strong. They didn't publish those numbers until this year (I think), but I knew when I was using it last year it significantly over tested and was every bit as strong as Yo-Zuri. One thing that really jumped out at me was it's casting distance. Can't really explain it, but it just seems to keep going and going and going. If you try it, I think you will really like it. I only "experimented" last year with it on one general purpose baitcaster and that was with 12 lbs test. I think I will stick with that for most of my set ups, put 10 on my cranking set up, and either 6 or 8 on my finesse baitcaster. I also see this year they came out with different colors which I like. NEPAfishfinder Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Tuffline is my personal favorite. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted January 20, 2007 Super User Posted January 20, 2007 Ok here we go, My favorite braided line is, drum roll please........ Stren Superbraid, I have tried Power Pro (frays way too easy), Various Spiderwires (They are all horrible, lost a monster snook thanks to the teflon coat, great on making line slip on itself!) and I have yet to try Suffix, but heard that it has close to the same characteristics of Superbraid. I also like Pline Flororclear for my spinning tackle and non braid applications. I sometimes use it uni to uni with my braid as a leader. Recommend a silicone spray on it to make it even more manageable. For leader material I love Pline's CFX Florocarbon Leader. For ultralight applications I like good ole' Trilene XL but that is just my humble opinion, remember you can always get a bad batch of good line, but most top brands as well as the various store brands are great if used correctly. Don't forget to take your time with knot tying, which I believe is the number one reason people curse their lines, when they should have been pointing the fingers at themselves. Hmmm, maybe that monster snook I lost was my fault....NO NO NO it was the d**n teflon coat! Quote
beze1124 Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 12 lb. Sufix siege Original Spiderwire (Haven't experimented enough with different braids yet) Quote
fishbowl807 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 12lb or 14lb Berkley Big game. For crankin I like 10lb BPS excell. Quote
Bass1 Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. But I am trying out Tectan, P-line Halo and probably Gamma coplymer this year. I have read many good things about Gamma so I am really curious. 8-) Seems to be more expensive though than the YH Ultra Soft. Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Spinning- Always have used Berkley Trilene or Trilene XT, but recently got 2 spools of yo-zuri hybrid for christmas so will defenitly give that a try this year. Baitcasting- Pline CXX for cranks and jerkbaits and Power Pro for t-rigs,jigs and frogs. Quote
