I know that St. Croix overall makes a good rod but does anyone have a valid opinion on St. Croix Triumph casting rods?  Dick's has them on sale but would appreciate any thoughts from our esteem members before I make a purchase.

It is the only rod in their line up that is imported from China. I have had reports of guide failures and blank failures. If I were purchasing a rack rod and wanted a St.Croix®,  I personally would start looking at the Premier line and up, all made in the US.

I agree with ReelMech, Spend the extra $20 and get a Premier.

I have a St. Croix Triumph, and to say that I was very disappointed would be an understatement.  The rod is heavy, and not very sensitive.  I thought it would be good with the SC name on it, but I was wrong.  I currently use it only to fish spinnerbaits, and rattletraps (anything were feel in not a great factor), but I am saving up to replace it as soon as I can.  If you are looking for a good rod in the same price range I would recommend the Fenwick Eagle GT, or even one of the BPS rods when they are on sale.

I had a Truimph spinning rod last year and had nothing but high praise for it until the blank had what sounded like a crack in it.  When I would cast I would here a sort of creaking noise. It would get even worse when the rod was under stress from a fish.

I ended up returning the rod and purchasing another Avid.

Just as a side note, I did have an Avid 6'6'' MH casting rod and did not care for it.  It was way to stiff, the hump was uncomfortable, and just did seem as sensitive as I had hoped.  But with that said, I love my Avid spinning rods  :-? :-? :-?.

The reason St.Croix® came out with the Triumph line of rods was to help with the entry level rod sales they were missing out on. Although the Triumph line is

Designed and imported by St. Croix to our exacting standards.
their quote not mine. It still falls miserably short of their US made rods. As a rod builder that uses SC blanks almost exclusively, the best entry level rods they make are the Premier series rods...

Good luck in your search..
