RW and Ghoti put you on the right track. Listen to them. As far as the Cobra X Tex- I bought some of this stuff for flippin because of the hype on how good it was. It was probably the worst line I have ever experimented with.

It appears to me that the line has been put on backwards. If you can troll it out, it will be fine. Based on your pictures, I don't believe the line twist has anything to do with the reel or the line brand. (Sometimes the lable goes up, sometimes down. After a few cranks, lower the rod tip and check line for twist).

Hey RW I have some line twist problems at ttimes. When you put the line out for trolling do you just hold it snug as you reel in to get it to un-twist?

by putting the line out loose to get out the twists does it sometimes cause twists right away before starting the untwist?

I've got to admit in my limited experience that on the the reels that I've used braided I haven't had near the twist problem (maybe none) and not near the backlash problem when using on baitcasters. I don't think I've caught as many fish vs mono but few or no twists

You should always put tension on line when reeling it in.  If you've got line out to let the twist out or just when putting it on a reel.

I like trolling new line even when it has been put on correctly, you will have a tightly wound spool when you go through this procedure:

Run the boat at low speed and simply release all but the last few feet of line on your spool. Leave it all out for a minute or so, then reel in about half your line. After another minute or so, reel in all but the last 20- 30 yards. Leave it there for 1/2 a minute and you are done. No weight, no casting, nothing special.

I'm pretty sure those who argue your line is twisted are correct, and replacing the line and respooling with new of any brand will only repeat the problem - unless you change the way you respool.  Note that the line is not just loose on the spool, it came off the spool then wrapped around itself when the tension was removed.  If it were just stiff line it would tend to come off the spool, but would not wrap around itself.

I agree with someone who said you probably can fix it by dragging the bare line behind the boat for a while.

Except for the Cabela/Daiwa "Capricorns," and maybe some others I don't know about, the right way to spool a spinning reel is to observe the bail action from the exposed end of the reel spool.  If the bail wraps in a clockwise direction, let the line come off the line source spool conterclockwise, and the line spool source does not rotate.  That is right for your Stradic.  Check out your instructions and you will probably get these instructions and a nice sketch of them.

6 pound test line of just about any quality will be soft enough to work well on your Stradic if installed without twisting.
