CFFF 1.5 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I was wondering what everyone on here thinks of the BPS Extreme Baitcast Reels. I currently have 3. I have the GT40X Reel with the matching All-Star GT40X Rod 7', 2006 BPS Extreme with a Woo Daves BPS Extreme Rod 7', and I have the new Silver 2007 Limited Edition BPS Extreme with a matching 6'6" BPS Extreme Rod. I love these rods and reels the one i've had the longest is probably 3.5 years and it is still as smooth as the day I got it. Never had any problems with any of them. What does everyone think about these reels. Quote

Lucky Craft Man Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I have three BPS Extreme reels as well. I had problems with two of them, because the metal insert that rides along the worm gear was short. I called Bass Pro and they sent me two little washers to eliminate the annulus in casing. Then one of my reels started whistling pretty loudly when I would cast it. I disassembled, cleaned, greased, and oiled it and the whistling subsided for a while, but then it started whistling again. It seems to work fine, but the whistling is extremely annoying. So I guess I am somewhat satisfied with them, but I don't know if I would buy another one. Quote
marlboroman Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I have 4 of them, I can't complain cause i have only had 1 break and BPS replaced it. Mine are 2 - 6:3:1 1 - 7:1:1 1 - 6:2:1 w flipping switch I really like the flipping switch, I think my next reel will be a Diawa though. Quote
BigAL Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 How ironic that I posted not having any probblems than today I opened up the brake system to change it and now it wont close!!!!!!LOL!Back to BPS it goes......... Quote
jonnylee82 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I really like the Extreme rods. I can't say the same about the reels. They're not that smooth, and every once in a while, the sideplate falls off by itself. Quote
uptonfish Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 The sideplate falls off more due to operator error than anything. The sideplate will seem to go on either rotating down from the top or up from the bottom. One of these is not correct and the sideplate will not get locked in place and can come off at inoppurtune times. That being said I think the Extreme combo is a good deal but I would not purchase a reel by itself except for back up purposes. Quote

moby bass Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Hmmm this is not all good news. I purchased one and just received it the other day. Haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. The online reviews that were written about it seemed to speak very highly of it. I don't believe there were any negative comments. Quote
mdangler Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Don't let these reports worry you. I fish exclusively with the extremes and pro qualifiers and they are great reels. I have never had such problems. But if you ever have problems, had a few with a bionic plus, bps has great costumer service and will fix it like it was new. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted March 17, 2007 Super User Posted March 17, 2007 I've got an Extreme EXT05, a smaller finesse type reel. I like it. Quote
Tpayneful Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I have two of the ETX10SLC which is a 5.4:1 ratio with left hand retrieve. I have had one for 6 months and like the performance. It took me a little while to find the right magnetic level setting that I liked but once I did it performed great. I really liked buying them for $45 last fall. I did also buy a Rick Clunn RCX10HLB at Christmas on sale for $79. I have been comparing the performance of the Extreme to the Rick Clunn and I really can't find any difference in performance. Next Christmas I will buy a Johnny Morris reel on the end of year sale and see if it performs better than the Extreme or Clunn reels. Quote
