llPa1nll Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Well as some of you know I am going to be in the market for a new Jig Rod thanks to UPS. I have had the Castaway HG40 JWMH610 rod its a telescopic 6ft 10in rod in a fast Medium/heavy range, I am extremely happy with it. I do most of my jig fishing with this rod on it I fish with my TD-Z left hand reel and 17lb CXXX Strong Moss green Pline. Now this rod sees no other lure than a 1/4oz Jig with a pork or GYCB trailer on it. However I am intrigued by Gloomis and Kistler rods, I know most of you here on the boards are partial to the Gloomis but I was wondering if I could get any input from any of you that had thrown with both. the Rods I would be looking at would be the: G-Loomis BCR803 6' 8", Medium-Heavy Power, Extra-Fast Action G-Loomis BCR804 6' 8", Heavy Power, Fast Action Kistler Helium LTA He69APC 6 ft 9 inch Medium Heavy Fast Action Kistler Helium LTA He69HC 6 ft 9 inch Heavy Fast Action Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I've never fished the rods you have mentioned but I do own these BCR853, 854, 855 These are the 7'1" series and the 854 is by far the finest rod I've ever thrown for jigs. Especially 3/8-1/2. I think the rod was designed for that. I've also thrown MBR's in glx's so I'm not compairing a zebco 33 to a glx. Quote
justfishin Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Team Allstar 6' 10" MH. This is a great rod for jigging and is great for worming and spinnerbaiting as well. I like a rod that fits more than one application and this one fits the bill nicely. Quote
basspro48 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Kistler makes the perfect jig rod IMO. I currently own a 7' MH Graphite Special and I LOOOOVE IT!!!!! It is very light. extremely sensitive, and is the best jig rod I have ever used. Now if the Graphite series is that good I can't imagine how good the Heliums are...maybe one day Quote
SCarter Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I use a GLoomis MBR844 - 7' H for jigs and it works great. For pitching soft palastics I use a 6-6 MH Team All Star Quote
shimanogloomis man Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 im with gman i also own the bcr 854 the best jiggin pole out there imo Quote
Super User FishTank Posted March 8, 2007 Super User Posted March 8, 2007 I have the G. Loomis BCR 803 and words can't describe how much fun this thing is to fish. I say go for the BCR803 ;D. Quote
CJ Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I have a Kistler LTA 7' and 6'6" in MH fast tip.I love em'. Quote

Is there a notable difference between the GLX and the MossyBack models? If the GLX is worth it I could consider it, since this is easily the rod/rig I use the most hands down... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 13, 2007 Super User Posted March 13, 2007 For most applications, the IMX is just fine, but for MAXIMUM sensitivity, the GLX is NOTICABLY better. For jigs and soft plastics, the GLX is worth the additional cost. Quote

IMO a GLX is something that you will have to take care of. Its not a knock around rod. If your good to it it will be good to you. This is how I look at purchases like this. If I buy quality once I dont have to rebuy things over and over. I dont belive in upgrading in most aspects. I just save up and buy it the first time around. Cheaper in the long run. Quote

llPa1nll Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 Yea trust me I am a believer in the saying "You get what you pay for" line. So I agree, its just that I havent spent $200+ on a rod, but since UPS is going to be fronting most of this purchase I think Im pretty ok with it. Specifically the rod I am looking at is the G-Loomis GLX BCR853 7' 1" I think this would be the best fit for me. I am going from a JWMH610 Castaway 6' 10". Any and all input would be great keep it coming. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 15, 2007 Author Posted March 15, 2007 Hey guys, I think Im going to bump up my Gloomis rod purchase and go with a G-Loomis GLX BCR854 7' 1" I have been told that the MH isnt that stout and that the H(BCR854) would be better suited for me. I am mainly pitching to boat docks. Quote
