Fishing a Premier Spin 66MF for the first time this week. It is a lot stiffer than any other medium I've got. More like the MH spinning rods I've got.

In retrospect I should have looked a little more closely at the bait weight ratings as it is rated for 1/4-5/8 oz. It doesn't do too well with a 1/8 oz. jig/grub.

Are all Premier rods this way? I've got a PC 66MHF that I've been using for jigs so far this year and it doesn't seem nearly as stiff as the spinning rod.

Wondering if the Avid is a little more flexible.

All Premier models run one power rating up.  I know this is true for there spinning rods, I'm not sure about baitcasting.

It threw me off to when I first bought mine.  I noticed I couldn't throw a split shot rig as far as my other mediums.

Good thing is I've found that MH can be real good for spinning.  If you mess up your crankbait rods reel, then you can throw a big crank on the MH spinning, or you can throw big jigs.  It can be nice.

I all I use are at croixs and they don't seem stiff to me. But I wish my st croix cranking rod was a little stiffer. It fells like iam going to snap the rod in two throwing a 1/2 crank.

You really have to look at the recmmended lure weight and line ratings on a rod. You can never assume you know what a 'medium power' rod is, as you have found out. Also, when you go up in modulus, the rods will become lighter, 'stiffer' and more responsive. Compare the Legend Elite to the Premier and you'll see what I mean. The Avid will also be more responsive and 'stiffer' than the Premier, but not quite as much. Pick up a Loomis CR722 in GLX and compare it to a GL3, totally different and it will seem like they should be rated differently, but Loomis calls them both 'medium'.

Well, I will say this.  This thing may be a little stiffer than I would like, but I can feel the blades of a small spinnerbait fluttering in the current with it.

Going to make fishing the river with an Ugly Stik quite hard to do.   :-/
