Ok im new to this forum and so far it likes like its pretty helpful. Any way im 16 and love fishing whenever i can, tomarrow im goin to cabelas to get a new casting rod/ reel set up that iv been saving for. Im looking at either the quantum energy pt 6.3:1 or the shimano curado d 6.2:1 Shimano equipment has always been good to me, verry reliable ,and either a shimano crucial crankbait 7' medium or a 7' mh im going to be purchasing both of those rods but i only have enough for one set up tomarow.

I actually had the same choice to make just not to long ago.  I actually went for the quantum in the 5:1 speed.  Reason was because I threw a lot of crankbaits, I wanted the slower retrieve.  But you really cant loose with either i think.

Although I am not a Shimano guy, I'd buy Shimano long before I'd buy a Quantum.

I recently bought a Quantam PT.  Fished with it twice and then took it back and exchanged it for a Shimano.   The Curado is one of the best reels on the market, and I doubt you would regret buying it.

Oh well, what the he**. I love my Curados and also, really like my Abu Garcias. I use both. I would buy either of these two before I bought a Quantum. I guess I better tuck and roll now, lol. :)

O and thanks for all your posts

Don't look back, just go fishing.  Shimano has been in the mainstream longer than Quantum, so will have many more advocates.  I really love my Quantum spinning reel, don't remember the model, and their PT Tour casting reels are really smooth, and just a little above the Shimano price.

You can go nuts with all the hype about the different options, but the bottom line is that you get about what you pay for, and I expect for what you paid for the Shimano there are not a lot of options that would offer you more.

One thing I would offer you as a strategy next time you go out for a purchase, check out Ebay.  You may find what you want at a lower price.

You bought the Qunatum, enjoy it.  Next time buy the Shimano (variety is the spice of life)...then post back here and tell US which one you like best.

Congrats on your purchase, have fun with it, catch lots of fish, release them and stay safe.

Cheers
