I've been mulling over the idea of getting a St. Croix Avid AS63MXF spinning rod to throw 1/8 to 1/4 oz. spinner baits .

Any pro's or con's about this idea would be greatly appreciated.

I have an Avid AS60MLF and I use it for all my light weight/finesse fishing.  I fish a lot of 1/8 oz. spinner baits.  So far this rod has been a lot of fun.  I have caught several crapie and bass.  I thought the length of the rod might be to short but it has been perfect for casting accuracy and tight places.

I think it's OVERKILL.

You don't need a high end rod to fish spinnerbaits. Any decent quality rod will do. starting at about 1/3 the price of the Avid.

But, watever makes you happy...

That rod would also be perfect for finesse worming, Hula Grubs, topwaters, etc., I don't want to start an argument, but the Avid is not a 'high end' rod, it's in the middle of the St. Croix lineup.

I agree Hot n Tot , it definately is a mid range rod.

The high end version is 300.00

Thanks for the input guys.

For me only, I could never go a spinning rod and spinnerbait. Even if they are light 1/8-1/4. Without going into a brand war, I would say go with a 6' 6" baitcasting rod rated for 8-17 lb test and a 100 series baitcasting reel. Use 8-10 lb line on this setup. JMO. Good luck. :)
