rosewalt Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Is everyone using mono with their crank baits. That seems to be what is recommended however I was going to try floro to get more depth. Any thoughts. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted February 25, 2007 Super User Posted February 25, 2007 I would stick with regular mono! The fluorocarbon lines are not as abrasion resitant as companies claim. Try Sunline Defier or Sufix Siege which is not as expensive. Quote
Bud Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 would stick with regular mono! The fluorocarbon lines are not as abrasion resitant as companies claim. Try Sunline Defier or Sufix Siege which is not as expensive. Sunline Defier is quite expensive. It is around $40 for 330 yards. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted February 25, 2007 Super User Posted February 25, 2007 I'd say it's very expensive but it is awesome line! Quote
Curado Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I use mono because when a fish hits it I like to have a little more stretch so I don't rip it out of its mouth since it's moving when he hits it. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 26, 2007 Super User Posted February 26, 2007 I use Trilene XL for my crankbaits, and it's never failed me. It's very good line and it doesn't cost an arm and leg. Falcon Quote
lubina Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I use P-Line CX most of the time except in those rare occasions that I want to go really deep, them I switch to fluoro. Quote
bugman Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I picked up some P-line CXX extra strong in 10lb. It has a larger diamiter than the CX but should be stronger. Is this a good line for cranking? Quote
gatrboy53 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 if your using a graphite rod you deffinitely need mono.w/ a glass rod flouro might get you a ft. deeper or so.if your trying to get 15' or more deep then flouro might help you do that.i use an40 thin diameter co-polymer w/ a composite rod. Quote
BIG M Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 stren superbraid 14/4 or 20/6 with a med. action rod. I perfer the rod to give not my line. Quote
onebassman Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I fish a lot for Smallies and have always used 10lb Ande's line for most of my crankin'. I've never lost a fish becouse of the line and you can't beat the price. Quote
mike bat Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 i use cajun red cast and tryline xt ..... bolth are monos .... now this is tricky because if you have a crankin stick ( glass or graph ) you should be fine with the cxx ..... due to the mod action of a crankin stick i see less need for such stretchy monos ...... a crankin stick has a forgiving tip so your tip should give you the play you need .... ( in theroy )..... as for the cxx it should be ok ... but id use the cx instead just because it seems to have less memory and a smaller dia. so if you went with a cx in 12lb it would be like a cxx in 10lb ( dia wise ) ;D Quote
Bass1 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I use mono because when a fish hits it I like to have a little more stretch so I don't rip it out of its mouth since it's moving when he hits it. Same as above. Quote
LAO162 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Newbie Question - How does Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft work with crankbaits? Quote
sal669 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I use 10lb P-Line CX with 6'-6" medium power, moderate action rod. Quote
Bass1 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Newbie Question - How does Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft work with crankbaits? I also use Yo-zuri Hybrid ultra soft for my crankbaits. It has some line stretch but not as much as monos. Quote
Stringjam Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I use PowerPro braid and varying diameters of copolymer, low stretch leader. I want to feel precisely what my bait is doing and contacting at all times - especially deep cranking. Quote
