basspro48 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I am debating between getting a Daiwa Zillion or the Shimano Chronarch 100B. I have been a hardcore shimano guy for a long time but the zillion just looks so good. Anyone have any opinions? Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 6, 2007 Super User Posted March 6, 2007 Zillion review Chronarch review Quote
dewserb Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I have the Shimano Chronarch B, and I absolutely love it! I can't imagine needing anything more than it offers, but then again, I haven't used the Zillion. I'd go with the Chronarch B because I KNOW it's good. Quote
SneakySnook Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I'm a shimano guy but after getting the zillion I'm hooked. Go with the zillion and you won't regret it. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I had a Chronarch b but after buying a zillion I took it back and got another zillion. I like shimano but Diawa is in the game with this reel. Compare the two when you buy them and I think you will take the zillion. Just come in from fishing and man this reel is so sweet. I agree go with the zillion you won't regret it Quote
Hot n Tot Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I've been thinking about the Zillion, and reading about it compared to the Chronarch 50MG and the Curado 100D. Tackle tour thought the Zillion was nice, but didn't really think it was great with lures under 3/8 oz, and really came into it's own tossing 1/2 - 3/4 oz lures. Since I'm looking for a finesse reel to put on my 6' GLX, I'm really leaning toward the Curado 100D just based on the Tackle Tour review. But, obviously I'll compare them all side by side and make my decision accordingly...although after reading the reviews the Curado looks better. Quote
Bud Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Go with the Shimano you know what kind of reel they are. Quote
SneakySnook Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hot n Tot I have the zillion and mostly use a 1/8oz weights and have never had any problems casting. I also use a weightless senko and have never had any problems with it. I have the zillion on a custom made IMX 844. Get the zillion and you will love it. Quote
The_Natural Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 The Zillion is definitely not designed for small baits. How effectively a reel will cast light weight baits is directly related to spool weight...not only the spool material itself, but how much line it holds effects its overall weight as well. A spool that holds 150yds of 12lb line is going going to be drastically heavier than a spool that holds only 100yds of 12lb line. A heavier spool requires more inertia to excellerate it, or in other words requires a heavier bait to get it spinning. I purchased my two Zillions as my spinnerbait/trap burning reels, but I certainly don't think it is limited to heavy baits; just not anything 1/4oz or under. The Zillion is a power reel...made to burn spinnerbaits or traps, flip and pitch jigs, throw C-rigs, etc...and I feel it is the best reel on the market for these techniques. Quote
mike bat Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 i have bolth reels //// i do like my chronarch well untill i baught a zillion ..... then i baught a new cu 201 /// that went back quick for another zillion .... shimanos are ok reels ... but IMO diawa offers more at better price ..... i also feel my zillions are my best 2 reels ;D it is what it is Quote
basspro48 Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 I have updated the thread because I am now considering the Chronarch 50mg too. I will be mounting the reel on a 7' MH Kistler rod and will use it mostly for pitching jigs and t-rigs, throwing spinnerbaits, and weightless senkos. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 8, 2007 Super User Posted March 8, 2007 Basspro48, I am a "brand" kind of guy. When I find a brand I like I usually stick with it. I like Shimano reels. I am sure that Abu Garcia and Pflueger and Daiwa make outstanding products; but I have had excellent luck with all of my Shimano reels so I will have to vote for Shimano. Now, when Jimmie Johnson puts Abu Garcia or Pfleugr or Daiwa on his car then maybe I will consider changing brands. But for now, you just cannot go wrong with Shimano. I wonder what Reel Mech would say if you asked him? So Reel Mech, if you read this thread how about your input for Basspro48 and the rest of us. Or, you can PM the Reel Mech and let us know what he says. I am heading to Kerr at the end of this month. Have you and your buddy or dad fished Kerr this month? Quote

Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 8, 2007 Super User Posted March 8, 2007 I have both, and the Zillion is much smoother and casts MUCH further. Quote
