Crankin' is one of my favorite ways to fish.  I have 4 crankin sticks:

1.  Kistler Mg 7' composite crankbait rod/ Daiwa advantage reel(all are 6.3:1)/ 10lb. gamma edge flourocarbon.  This rod is a great all around crankin' rod.  It is usually the first one I pull out of my rod box.  I use this one almost everyday.

2.  Kistler Helium LTA 7' Medium action/ Daiwa advantage reel/ 12lb. gamma edge flourocarbon.  I use this rod mainly for square bill crankbaits or any shallow runner.  I like the graphite because I can feel every limb in a laydown and every stump on a shallow flat.

3.  Kistler Graphite Plus 7'6" Medium action/ Daiwa Advantage reel/ 10lb. gamma edge flourocarbon.  This is one of my favorite rods. This is the rod I pull out when im fishing a DD22 or a DT16 or any other super deep diver.  I can use the extra 6 inches to cast further and get the bait deeper.

4.  Kistler Mg 7' composite crankbait rod/ Daiwa Advantage reel/ 30lb. Spiderwire Stealth.  This rod works great with rattle traps or any other time Im trying to rip my bait out of the grass.

Those 4 combos really narrow it down for me.  Every once in a while when I get dialed in on a really good deep bite, I will have all of them rigged up with a deep diver.  Although, I usually switch spools with my braid rod and put one in with 8lb. gamma edge.  I know some people dont need 4 crankbait rods, but it is one of my favorite techniques and one of the best ways to whack a real big bag!  Hope this helps.

I utilize two rigs; a Loomis cbr843 paired with a Scorpion and 8lb Pline CXX, and a Loomis cbr845 paired with a Scorpion and 10lb/12lb Pline CXX.  My go-to cranks are L/C Moonsault cb100's in chartreuse shad, RC1.5's in purple perch, L/C BDS 2's in Rootbeer or Chartreuse Shad,  and Bagley B2's in black pearl.

My main crank rig is a BPS 7' medium Rick Clunn worm/dropshot rod, Millionaire reel and 10lb test Vanish. The rod is supposed to be a worm rod, but the tip is way too soft for plastics fishing. It makes a very good crankbait rod. For light baits and/or longer casting I use an Airuss Tradition 7' spinning rod, Daiwa Capricorn reel and 8lb test XL. For the rare occasion when I want to go deep cranking, I use my lightest muskie rig, an old Berkley Bionix rod 7' MH, TD2Hi reel, 50lb test PowerPro with a flouro leader. The rod has a softer tip than most MH rods, and I use it to throw the largest Senkos and Dingers for muskie. I substitute a Tygerwire leader for the flouro when targeting the toothy critters.

Go to cranks are Rapala DT's and Berkley Frenzy divers. I have a lot of other cranks, Bandits, Normans, Poes, and more, but the DT's and the Frenzys are the first ones I try.

Cheers,

GK

Big lures and deep divers:

Lamiglas SR705R (glass)/ Shimano CTE200GT (5.0:1)/ Ultra Soft #12.

Light lures and at night:

Fenwick Techna AV AS70MM/ Shimano Sustain 2500/ Ultra Soft #6 or original Hybrid #8.

Shallow- Norman Fat Boy, Bomber Square A, Mann's -1, Bagley BII, LC Rick Clunn 2.5 & 3.5

Deep- Norman DD22, Mann's 20+ & 25+

I fish a Furnance Bay Rod that is 6'6 M with Medium Action with a curado reel. The rod is excellent for feeling crankbaits and is limber enough to give when the fish hits it so you dont pull the hooks. I would recommend a Medium action rod just so you dont pull the hooks out when you set it.   :o

7' MH Bass Pro Rick Clunn crankbait rod model 703C.  Don't let the MH scare you off cause it is not that Heavy really- great crankbait rod for a great price as well.  Probly my most unexpensive setup but also one of my most productive.  I use 8 to 12lb test line depending on the area I am at spooled on a 3.8:1 Curado- I like the slow ratio for cranks!!!  :-X

I am in need of a crankbait reel.  I have $100ish to spend, and I am mainly a daiwa fan.

I am looking at the 5.1 ratio TD Advantage (New), 5.1 ratio TDX 105 PV or Pi (Used Ebay)

I have a 7' M Binns Bros. Custom that I had a Mithcell spidermite Sm 300 with 4.5 ratio on it.  I want to upgrade.

I mainly fish Strike King Series 1 and 3. Zoom WEC Shallow, Rapala DT10's, Fat Free Fry, and 1/4 oz Lures.

I have been looking at the TDA Advantage Mainly, how does it handle 1/4oz lures.

Also,  I have a TDX HSDF, Alphas 103, and Had a Scorpion.  I am looking to expand my collection.

Thanks

I have 7 of the TD Advantage reels and I think they are great for the money.  they cast lures down to 3/16 pretty good.  Although, if you have the money you may want to upgrade to the supertuned model.  It's $40 more but it will give you a little more casting distance.

Casting: Loomis CBR783 with either a 5:0.1 or 6:2:1 Curado for traps & wart type baits

Spinning: Loomis SR843 or SJR782 for smaller lighter baits like #5 Shad Raps, etc. usually use Shimano Sustain 2500 or Symetre 2000 with these rods.

Almost always crank with 10# Trilene XL on the Curados, and 8# on the spinning reels.
