castaway Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 you must not have kids or a wife spending your $. ;D John, In posting what you have said,I think it is too late to sit you down and have a talk about the birds and the bees and about wrapping that weasel..... Your only option is to be a dead beat Dad, or go without, since being a dead beat dad is not where its at, come on up north this summer and we will go fishing anyway , even though you say you cannot afford to own one of these high dollar products. ;)Ivan Quote
stewart1218 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 $800/combo _____________ = 26 Berkley Lightnin' Rods!!! $30 I'm not gonna get into the whole LR series are crap since they're not GLoomis or St. Croix. Can't get either one of those at wal-mart, and you dang sure can't get one without the wife noticing! Least not in my house! I'd love to have a steez or gl, or st. croix, but as seldom as I get to fish with work and law school, I like knowing that I can go to wally world and pick up a quality rod and reel for that matter and not have to bat an eye! But yes I would degrade myself for a steez setup! Quote
Guest avid Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 when I bought my steez reel, the salesman were foaming at the mouth to get me to buy a steez rod. They practically picked me up and carried me to the rod section to check them out. I gotta tell you guys these are the lightest, most beautiful, and amazingly well balanced rods I ever handled. I would have bought one, seriously, they are elegant wands. You may not catch more fish, but your fishing pleasure will increase exponentially. I declined because I need my St. Croix, and G Loomis, idiot proof warranty. Daiwa has good customer service. but I doubt if I stepped on my steez rod they would send me another one for $50.00 that being said, it was an aesthetic experience. Daiwa has turned fishing equipment into transcendental instruments. Quote
Captain Chaos II Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 They may not replace the rod for any reason but I think they have a lifetime limited warranty.... Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 24, 2007 Super User Posted February 24, 2007 who uses these combos. you dont even see the pros doing it I believe I saw Ike using them and I believe that was a WHOLE LINE-UP I saw in Aarron Marten's deck this morning on the Classic Quote
stumpyfd Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 who uses these combos. you dont even see the pros doing it. i find it hard to believe the market is there for such expensive equipment. i think Ish Monroe is the only one using them. Quote
jayhawkfishin Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Ish and Ike are using the steez line up Aaron Martins uses megabass Quote
Guest avid Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 They may not replace the rod for any reason but I think they have a lifetime limited warranty.... Alot of rod companies will offer a similar sounding lifetime limited warranty on their higher end rods. but that means different things in different companies. Loomis will replace any rod for any reason at $50.00 plus shipping. If it's a defect they replace for free. The 50 bucks is the "idiot" part I spoke of, St. croix sent me a brand new tournament bass rod when I broke the reel seat from overtightening. Not a defect but yet another "idiot' move. It cost me $20.00 plus shipping. When I start hearing stories about guys closing thier truck doors on thier new $350.00 steez rod and Daiwa replaces it for 50. then we can talk. by the way, the reel is fabulous. Quote
sunfishkid Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I cant believe touched one. I have never been within 100 miles of one. i would never wash my hands if i got to touch a steez Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 26, 2007 Super User Posted February 26, 2007 sunfishkid, Welcome aboard! avid, The G.Loomis Xpeditor service is $50 "all in", no additioanl charge for shipping. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 26, 2007 Super User Posted February 26, 2007 True - and sometimes they dont even charge that! I had a broken rod and they replaced it no questions asked. all I did was send in the rod and paid for shipping I think - Quote
castaway Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Has anyone ever used Daiwa's warranty ? :-?Ivan Quote

I very seriously considered it. but I do have a good track record with my equipiment. but I have had $350.00 rods go over the side, and even loomis won't replace that so who knows. Right now I am very well outfitted with quality equipment. but I gotta tell ya, this steez rod has raised the bar IMO. and there may be one in my future just because I HAVE to own one. I'm sure you know what I mean. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 27, 2007 Super User Posted February 27, 2007 That is the problem with these rods Avid. Once you own one, cast it, and catch a few fish on it, you want more. and more. and... Daiwa definitely raised the bar with this series. In my opinion nothing else compares right now. Quote
shimanogloomis man Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 there was a fishing show near me and i checked out that new diawa steez rod and reel baitcaster and i must admit might be the most balenced reel n rod combo out there not that i would buy a diawa but def a nice setup, ill still stick with shimano tho . as far as the steez spinning reel nice but i dont think as good as a stella imo of course Quote
Captain Cali Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 who uses these combos. you dont even see the pros doing it. i find it hard to believe the market is there for such expensive equipment. C'mon dude, you live is San Diego where the average house is in excess of $300,000, maybe $400,000. You can't drive ten miles anywhere in the region without passing a few dozen Lexus, Mercedes, et. al. Why would you think there wouldn't be a market for a $800 fishing combo. There's plenty of people, particularly in southern California that spend more money than that on dinner! What's a weekend at La Costa cost these days? Last time I was there a round of golf, drinks, breakfast-lunch & dinner, and spa time for the wife was something north of two big ones. I would rather have the rod and reel, even if it's the WRONG brand :. At least I'd have something to show for the money. Couldn't have said it better myself. Roadwarrior is being nice when he said 10 miles. Here is Los Angeles try 10 seconds. : I'm not exaggerating. I know a few people who already have Steez combos. There seems to be a decent amount of demand considering the price. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I went to the local outdoor expo tonight and picked up (didn't buy, just picked up... LOL) both the baitcaster and the spinning combo... all I can say is WOW!!!! Amazing how light and balanced the setup was!!! I can't imagine what it feels like hooking up with a fish on these rods and reels!!! Maybe I could refinance my house to buy a few... Quote
c_diesel2 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Just won a "once used" Steez 103HA 6.3.1 baitcaster on ebay for 350 bucks....cant wait to get it.... .... Quote
Super User RoLo Posted March 3, 2007 Super User Posted March 3, 2007 I almost wish this topic hasn't come up, because I'm an incorrigible fan of Daiwa rods The problem is, my wife fishes too, so if I succumb to a Steez outfit, I'll have to buy TWO combos! > Roger Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 3, 2007 Super User Posted March 3, 2007 And you suffer Roger ? You suffer because instead of having two combos for you and you alone you have to share one with your wife. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted March 5, 2007 Super User Posted March 5, 2007 About three weeks ago I went to BPS and looked at a Steez baitcaster. It was amazing to say the least but at nearly $500 with tax, I purchased the last 100SHLA Zillion instead. At the time they had a huge supply of Steez reels. Well, I went back today with an old reel to trade in for a discount on a new Steez and it was the only reel they were sold out of. I guess, (according to the salesman), about 30+ other people had the same idea I did this Sunday. They were fully stocked as of Friday but with the sale even the displays were gone. Will people spend the cash on reel like this? After what I saw today> ABSOLUTELY!!!! They just have to wait for them to go on sale. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 5, 2007 Super User Posted March 5, 2007 Fishtank, The Zillion is an awesome reel in itself. A very close second to the Steez in my opinion. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 They seem incredible and if soemone can afford them AINT NOBODYS BUSINESS BUT THEIR OWN!!!!!! Billie Holiday sang that over 50 years ago and people still dont get it Quote
