Super User dodgeguy Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 i went to the annual nybass seminar on feb. 18 and got to put my hands on a few of these combos.to be honest,if i made $500000 a year i would have nothing but these in my collection.oh my god they are weightless.they are also the closet thing to balanced in a baitcaster i have ever seen.it would take very little weight to balance them perfectly.since i don't make that much money i guess i will keep playing the lottery!! Captain Chaos II Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I'm really interested in the Steez combo.something about a 10oz combo really is appealing. Which size rods did you get to handle? They had the 6 7' model at Bass Pro and it felt really good. That rod was there for like 2 days and then someone scooped it up. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 If money grew on trees , I definately would have a few of them. BUT Quote

Lil Baby Cousin Ray-Ray Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 who uses these combos. you dont even see the pros doing it. i find it hard to believe the market is there for such expensive equipment. Quote
Captain Chaos II Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 The rod prices are in the ballpark of the GLX Loomis rods actually so I'd say there is a market for this high end stuff. Me, personally.I'd like to get me one of those set ups. I went thru college with a red Abu 5000-c baitcaster on a 2 piece Rhino spinning rod(fished the rod upside down) so I like to think I paid my dues..The Steez combos are cutting edge in terms of technology and I think it would be awesome to experience fishing with one of those for the rest of my life. By the way, caught a bunch of fish with my college rod as there were a few ponds on campus and hardly anyone fished them. I think Ish Monroe uses some of the Steez line. I'm sure the Daiwa sponsored folks have a few in their arsenal. Quote

C'mon dude, you live is San Diego where the average house is in excess of $300,000, maybe $400,000. You can't drive ten miles anywhere in the region without passing a few dozen Lexus, Mercedes, et. al. Why would you think there wouldn't be a market for a $800 fishing combo. There's plenty of people, particularly in southern California that spend more money than that on dinner! What's a weekend at La Costa cost these days? Last time I was there a round of golf, drinks, breakfast-lunch & dinner, and spa time for the wife was something north of two big ones. I would rather have the rod and reel, even if it's the WRONG brand :. At least I'd have something to show for the money. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 Is there a market ..... For sure!!!!! Is it huge .... No. The Steez line is not to target the majority of us fisherman. It's meant to target the "tackle enthusiast" if you will. It's not like Diawa is putting all their eggs in one basket either. They have plenty of products that target the average joe. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 definately a market for high end bass fishing gear- just like there is a market for bently's and ferrari's in the auto world... Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 A fishing buddy of mine just bought a Steez and a Lommis. His other older reels consisted of a Ryobi spinning reel and a, used to be red, Abu Garcia Ambassedeur. He is not exactly a tackle enthusiast but he wanted a new reel, the best if he could get it. All he had to do is quit smoking. He smoked three packs a week. That's about $10 a week in his pocket or $520 a year. He also said his insurance was cheaper at work. He put away that extra cash for a year and "Hello Steez and a new G. Loomis GLX MBR842C". We have not been able to wipe the smile from his face. Quote

Actually almost every pro on Diawa's prostaff are now using either the Steez line or the old TD-X's. Quote

I'm on that plan also......Quit Jan 1 and a Steez combo is my reward to myself after 1 year of not smoking....next New Year's. I even have the red Abu Garcia.... But I got a long way to go, I smoked about a pack a day and I already have a few nice combos. Wait a second....am I your fishing buddy?? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 21, 2007 Super User Posted February 21, 2007 Most people buy what they can afford. Are the prices of the Steez products justafiable ? If you have that mind set , they are. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I think the prices of a lot of things are getting carried away. When I was a kid I could get a good spinnerbait for a couple of bucks. Now you can't hardly find a good one for under $7-$10. I bought 6 crankbaits the other day that were 33% off and they still cost me over $60. $50,000 will quickly be the norm for bassboats. It is just getting crazy. JT Bagwell Quote
The_Natural Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 The Steez rods are indeed pretty amazing. I pulled the trigger on one, and three more soon followed. I've been a die hard Loomis guy for a couple of years now, but the Steez are just so light and balanced, and I love the air foam grips. Quote

flippin4it. Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 In the area in which I live, Fairfax County in Virginia. The cost of living keeps people like me from being able to buy rods and reels that cost $500 a peice. My wife and I make about 110k conbined and are just making ends meet. Between our 2 girls (Soccer, swimming, piano, violin and now fashion for the oldest), a car payment. A townhouse will run you 450-500k...........I'm middle class here. The Steez is the lightest and smothest combo I have held. But I will have to settle with my Kistler/ Pflueger Summit combo. Poor me! LOL. "RICH ON LIFE AND EMPTY POCKETS." Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 22, 2007 Super User Posted February 22, 2007 It's all about prioritys..........I wanna keep the light's on, food on the table, AND MOST IMPORTANT stay out of credit card debt. I feel pretty fortunate to have been able to buy every thing I own with cash I earned, includeing a new $12K bass tracker this year., without effecting the family income 1 bit. Some guys like me, loath oweing money on everything, and anything..........especialy what ammounts to "toys", other guys', like my brother -in-law, owe money on every thing. Includeing the pack of gum he just "bought". If you have ever been in DEEP to the credit cards (I was at one time and it took 10 LONG years of hard work and sacrifice to get out of it free and clear doing it the right way). It tought me a valuable lesson.........pay cash, or go with out........it's not the end of the world if you have to actually save up to buy that new "toy" you want. I look at my brother -in-law and just feel bad for him, cause sooner or later it's gonna hurt.........I try to talk him out of some of the things he "buys" but..........live and learn is the only thing going to teach him. castaway Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Dodgeguy, Your heart is not really set on it, or you would find a way to save up and buy it if you really wanted it.I make under $25,000.00 a year and I can afford to buy one.I am just short of another G Loomis rod, A GLX this time. ;)Ivan Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 22, 2007 Author Super User Posted February 22, 2007 you must not have kids or a wife spending your $. ;D Quote
flippin4it. Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I totally agree with DG, Castaway must not have seen my previous post about "kids". I left the wife out of it. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 you must not have kids or a wife spending your $. ;D Exactly... I went to my daughter's school tonight and found out tuition is going up... Walking out, my wife looked at me and asked why I had this funny look on my face... I turned to her and said "do you know how many rods, reels, lures (or even a down payment on a nice boat) I could buy with that cash?" She seems to think my daughter's education is more important! : Guess the Steez won't be on my list when I go to BPS tomorrow! :'( Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 23, 2007 Super User Posted February 23, 2007 Steez rods and reels are what I consider "exotics". I'm steadily replacing my personal gear with their rods and reels. Quote
