bowtech_182 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 What is a good morning bait for this time of year. I will be on the water at 7am. I was thinking about starting with a spinnerbait and then moving on to my normal t-rigged yum dinger. How do topwaters and weightless shad colored flukes work in the morning? I also have some buzzbaits, a couple cranks and several jigs. I am welcome to suggestions. Andy Quote
Cajun1977 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 all the choices you named aretrue winners in the so called morning bite. but to be perfectly honest anything and everything will work at any time. but your choices are what i would roll with, maybe starting with the buzzbait and sammy Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 4, 2007 Super User Posted September 4, 2007 How about a buzzbait with a black skirt. The "clacker" style is excellent but any buzzbait will do. Then, if no strikes try your Pop-R fished at different speeds and techniques. A silver with a black back is a good choice. A Spook (silver with silver glitter) or the Sammy as Cajun suggested or a Chugbug or your spinnerbait. Have a Texas-rigged Senko ready to throw if the bass miss the topwater. Throw the Senko at the location of the miss, immediately. Do this with the buzzbait, too. Some guys like the wacky rigged Senko so you can try that. Be sure your buzzbait has a trailer hook. If still no strikes, and there are weeds, pads or grass, try your Horny Toad or a weightless pink 10 inch trick worm moved like a snake right under the water and/or over the pads. Or a swimming Senko weighted to get it down to the fish, like with a 1/8 or 1/4 ounce bullet weight. Be sure to throw your buzzbait all over the place, like to and from the bank; parallel to the shore; down submerged trees and logs; around docks; and especially by small sticks sticking out of the water. Bump the buzzbait into structure; retrieve it slow, fast, with a short pause, or any other way you think will provoke a strike. If no hits with a black skirt, change out to a white or a white/charturuse skirt. You can also throw the smaller size buzzbaits as they can produce a lot of strikes when the larger buzzbaits will not. Same is true with the sizes of the other baits, too. Let us know how you do. Super User roadwarrior Posted September 4, 2007 Super User Posted September 4, 2007 Generally, I like "moving lures" in the morning, finesse lures during the day. Quote
bowtech_182 Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 Well I tried the black buzzbait with no luck so I went to a Chartreuse spinner with still no luck. I then went on to a t-rigged dinger, a wacky dinger and a shakey head finesse worm. I was skunked for the second day in a row. the first two times out in my new boat and not even a bite Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 4, 2007 Super User Posted September 4, 2007 Oh-oh! I hear Mr. Senko and Mr. Fat Ika calling... : If you are fishing weeds, especially early or late, the GYCB Kreature and Swimming Senko have been getting rave reviews: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180909581 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186198349 Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted September 5, 2007 Super User Posted September 5, 2007 I just got off the water and the bait that produced the most this morning was a white buzzbait. The water was like a mirror except for all the blow-ups from the bass. I had a blast. A firetiger spinnerbait produced a few also. Falcon Quote
techo Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 If the dreaded no wind time is in effect early and they have the damshut down (no current).....we have had a lot of luck with the red fins this year. Early with calm water. Sometimes they will hit it two or three times before they take it though. Quote
