a crazy idea

ok so my neighboor came over yesterday and started talking w/ my dad. well i was sittin on the couch w/ them listening to them, but i was very tired after waking up early to go fishing. anyway, i just zoned out and focused on the bag of disgusting grocerey store brand strawberry licoriche sticks. then i got the crazy idea of texas rigging them!!!!! lol! we got a pound of them for like 2bucks, and nobody likes them so i'd have pleny of them to use as bait. anyone ever tried this? im really curious as to how it will work. i think it will either suck extremely bad or be extremely awesome, definitley not inbetween. what do you all think?

Hey, it is a little silly, but that is the kind of creative thinking that can make you a better fisherman. It doesn't pay to be brainless, you gotta think outside of the box. Give it a try. There is no reason it shouldn't work unless they dissolve to quickly or the bass reject the flavor. Bass are not attracted to sweet flavors like we are, but that doesn't mean they reject them. Don't let others discourage you, give it a try.

Go for it and let us know what happens.

Please cut the licoriche into 2, 3 ,4, 5.6, 7 abn 10 inch strips so we can see what lenght works best.

Then dip the "tail end" in a yellow dye, such as Spike It.

Using a proper EWG hook, try them Texas rigged, shakey head and wacky style.

You can also swim them to see if you get any reaction strikes.

Since bass do not like sweets, you may want to use some attracant to try to hide the sweet flavor of the candy.

If you don't catch anything or get any bites, you can always either throw the candy into the lake for the turtles or just bring it to school or work and let the others enjoy it. ;D

yeah i am very curious. they are hollow on the inside, so maybe i could close up one end and  fill it w/ scent! they probly wouldnt have very much action though. i'll give it a try and let you all know how it goes.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time.

If your going to try something..........try a different plastic bait that you haven't worked with before.

Me and The Captain are plannin' on tryin it for catfish. It does work for smallies and rockbass though. Captain will have to tell ya how he rigged it though. What he did was use an old plastic bait bag, cut the licorice into a certain length and soak them in garlic and crawfish scent in the bag till he uses them.

I would leave the black licorice to the catfishing. Channels love anise (a lot like licorice).

yeah ive heard of ppl catching bass off gummy worms. i dont really think the licoriche would start dissolving too quickly....maybe though...iunno. and i dont know whats up with bass akwards, but if he was serious then yea some of those might actually work, but if you were making fun of me...then that is a bad thing :-/ and yeah i know bass like anise too, but anise is more like black licoriche, not strawberry licoriche.

ps: im using strawberey cuz thats what we have and IMO it tastes like poo (now i love love love twizzlers, but this is the grocerey store brand, so i figure i'll let the fish have it lol! ;D)

Be sure to let us know what happens when you use the bait.

I would think saltwater fish would be more agressive and open to various types of bait, such as the pepper for redfish.

But a bass may decide to "taste" the bait just to either see if it something to eat or to kill it.

Hey, any animal that thinks a buzzbait is a snack will probably hit anything, even Snickers bars.

great way to think outside the box   keep thinking sooner or later it usually pays off.

you have to remember when the 1st plastic worm came out the maker was told his idea was crazy , well look at us now.  ;D a bunch of   fishermen using plastics and what not. so my advise to you is keep thinking and ,test, then post resualts let us know. good luck
