BassinSoldier Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 I finally got some of this line since I have heard nothing but good things about it and I am kinda 50/50 on it. It's strong, yeah, but for me it seems really stiff and bad with memory. Anybody have the same issues with this line?? Quote
earthworm77 Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 It has Fluoro in it so it can be a little stiff and may take getting used to. As long as you stay with 8lb or smaller on spinning gear, you will be OK. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 18, 2007 Super User Posted February 18, 2007 I wish you would have gotten the Hybrid Ultra Soft, it's a whole different line. I think the original Hybrid in sizes #8 and lower will work on spinning tackle, as earthworm said, but anything higher is too stiff. On baitcasters, I am still using #15 on one rod without too much trouble. What I recommend is Ultra Soft #6 (11.9 lb test) on spinning tackle, Ultra Soft #12 (19.5) on baitcasters. In use, these lines have very little memory. Quote
flippin4it. Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I'm using #15 for soft plastics and #12 for my spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. When it is cold,it seems a little stiff. But when its warm the stuff is killer! Has not failed me in the 2 years of using it. Quote
Blue Streak Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I used it last season and I really liked it. It did start to get stiff in the fall, but it was getting close to changing it any how. Quote
Hawgin Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I would recommend that you buy a small bottle of silicone line conditioner. Something like Reel Magic or KVD line and lure conditioner. Take and spray it on a rag, spool out your line and reel it back in by running it through the rag, stopping to spray more on the rag every 30 yards or so. I use hybrid 15# and I've had memory issues in the winter, but not during warmer weather. Hope this helps. Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Last year, I used the 10# for crankbaits and topwaters and the 15# for all else. It has been a good line. I bought the large bulk spools and changed out line each month. Brad Quote
Mikey40 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I just received some Ultra Soft #8 for my spinning tackle recently and have fallen in love already! Quote
Big-Bass Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I actually didn't like the Hybrid I tried...but alot of people say they love it. Quote
KenDammit28 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I actually switched back from PowerPro to Hybrid. I just couldn't get the feel of PP and it just didn't seem to work for me...I had great luck using the Hybrid before I had switched, so I went back. The memory is fine for me with #15 during the summer...right now if I take it out, its like #20 big game(just like a slinky), lol. Quote
Bud Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I bet it won't break like that line you was using the last time we went. Joey if you don't like it just get you some Sunline Defier and laught at the rest. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Gary D. Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I think it's excellent for certain applications, I use the 10lb for crankbaits and traps, and I use the 12lb sometimes for spinnerbaits, very strong, good price and it doesn't get weak like regular mono does after long periods of use, therefore lasts longer Quote
Guest avid Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I dont like to buy line thourgh the mail because I like to feel and examine it. I can't find an soft yo zuri but i did buy some Pline evolution and boy howdy this is one good line. Has a bit a memory in the beginning but after breaking it in with ratltraps and trolling it behing the boat a couple of times it is limp and strong. I love it. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I tried it cause of what I heard on this forum. Used it once de-spooled it and threw it away- I thought it was junk. You can see it in the water like a "white cable", way too much memory and the pound test is not consistent with other brands- their 6# test is the diameter of most other lines' 10#. If you like it fine... priced right but was not for me- just my opinion- I know the Yo-Zuri lovers are not gunna like this- it's ok. Quote
Hot n Tot Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Jetsprint has a good point about the lb test rating vs other brands, but I really like the stuff. The regular yozuri gets better with time, and the ultra soft is very limp and castable. I like the 6 lb on spinning reels and the 12 lb on casting reels. I keep reels spooled with different lines, and match the reels with the rods I want to use in certain conditions. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 Yo-Zuri #6 is .010" diameter, exactly the same as Ande Premium and many other 6 lb test lines. The original Hybrid has some memory but at any diameter, I would rate the overall comparison to other monofilaments and copolymers in the middle. Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft is a horse of a different color: In use, Ultra Soft has very little memory (virtually none in warmer weather). The major attributes are resistance to abrassion, impervious to water and UV light, extraordinary strength, lasts indefinitely and it floats! I fish #4 (.009" diameter, 8.5 lb test) for smallmouth and the line is nearly invisible. When fishing larger diameters on baitcasting equipment, I am usually using reaction baits or fishing for largemouth bass where visibility is not an issue. Quote
afendrbass Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I will be purchasing some line on thursday, b/c i can't make it to the opening of BPS (i work in the evening). My initial thought was to go with the yozuri, but i am also really curious about the SUNLINE products. What lines would even be compared to yo-zuri products (abbrasiveness, uv resistant, ...)? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 Bud mentioned Sunline Defier a couple of posts up on this thread. I fished it a little on his equipment and liked it... A LOT! I don't know whether BPS carrires it or not, but you can order it from a number of online stores. It's a little pricey ($40/ 300 yards), but it seems to be some fine line. Quote
afendrbass Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 yeah, i saw someone else mention something, which enticed me to ask. Is there anything else that is comparible to yozuri? I am definitely going to get some ultra-soft on thur, i would just like to be able to compare it with some competition, something of equal caliber...does that make sense? :-? Quote
TournyFish001 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 P-line co-polymer possibly. I like it better than the yo-zuri hybrid for sure but I am sure it is a bit more spendy... Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 21, 2007 Super User Posted February 21, 2007 I think Gamma Co-Poly and Yo-Zuri are pretty similar. I personally like Gamma a tad more, but had no problems with Yo-Zuri Quote
afendrbass Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I was curious about pline, b/c they have so many different types of line offered, so i'll check into to that. I had not thought about gamma, but will definitely look into it. The line doesn't have to come from bps necessarily, what about vicious...i'll start another post... : thanks for the input guys Quote
BOOYAH Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 My walmart has this stuff on clearence for $3 for 600 yard spool, its the smoke blue color. Do you guys think this color is ok? I purchased 1 spool and was thinking about stocking up on it, since they have like 5 cases of it on clearence. What do you guys think of that? Correction... it was smoke purple.. I thought it was too good to be true ya know, but i've heard good things about it and think i might have to pick up a few spools. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 26, 2007 Super User Posted February 26, 2007 Although I don't really think the color is important, smoke blue is fine. I blends especially well in stained water. You found yourself a sweet deal! Quote
