Is there anyplace that a guy can buy an aftermarket handle for a Scorpion 1001.  I would like to get a little bit bigger one as the one on there right now seems a little small for my liking.  Thanks

bassin_man,

Yup you can change out that 70mm handle with a Chronarch 50MG 80mm handle (at about $30.00), or you can go with the aftermarket ZPI 80mm at almost $100.

Another good upgrade for your Scorpion would be Carbontex drag washers for some good stopping power..

You only want a longer handle or you want to tune your Scorpion ?

For the first, order a Chronarch 100B handle directly from Shimano, it 's a perfect match.

For the second, you can tune simply by, instead of ordering a Chronarch handle you order a Calais handle ( comes with 4 bearings in the knobs ) or you can order a carbon fiber ZPI handle from Plat ( www.plat.co.jp ); Jun at Japantackle has been somehow trying to scare away customers interested only in aftermarket parts by not selling them unless you have purchased a reel or other merchandise from him in previous ocassions.

If you are looking for funtiovb and not authentic High End price, look at a BPS Hog Handler Deluxe reel handle. I use them on my Scorpion MG's andnthey are great. About 12.00

Hey, ReelMech, how much does the drag system cost? This thread is of special interest to me, as I have a scorpion 50mg in the mail (my first).  ;) I didn't know I would have to spend even more on it after I got it to make it right.  >:o

Those carbon fiber handles are pretty expensive. A guy can buy a sheet of carbon fiber at the local hobby store, spend an hour or two with a Dremel tool, and have 10 of those things for about $30.

OK, Thanks. I'll just have to see how I like what comes standard. I read somewhere that they only had about 3-4 lbs of drag standard. Of course, this was after I bought it. I'm planning on using it for a finesse reel anyway, but that little amount of drag is laughable at best. My spinning reels do better.

From cold forged machine cut handle & septon contoured knobs to stamped metal sheet and "el cheapo" knobs Vyron ?  :o

From opulence to poverty with the switch of a handle. :;)

Just for you information The new Curado 201 DHSV handle fit my Scorpion 1001 mg's like a glove.

I ordered my handles from Shimano. The reason I went with the Curado handle is that is 84mm, a little larger than the Chronarch mg handle. After getting them today I am glad I went for them.
