bassin_man Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Is there anyplace that a guy can buy an aftermarket handle for a Scorpion 1001. I would like to get a little bit bigger one as the one on there right now seems a little small for my liking. Thanks Quote

Guest DavidGreen Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 bassin_man, Yup you can change out that 70mm handle with a Chronarch 50MG 80mm handle (at about $30.00), or you can go with the aftermarket ZPI 80mm at almost $100. Another good upgrade for your Scorpion would be Carbontex drag washers for some good stopping power.. Tight Lines!!! Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 13, 2007 Super User Posted January 13, 2007 You only want a longer handle or you want to tune your Scorpion ? For the first, order a Chronarch 100B handle directly from Shimano, it 's a perfect match. For the second, you can tune simply by, instead of ordering a Chronarch handle you order a Calais handle ( comes with 4 bearings in the knobs ) or you can order a carbon fiber ZPI handle from Plat ( www.plat.co.jp ); Jun at Japantackle has been somehow trying to scare away customers interested only in aftermarket parts by not selling them unless you have purchased a reel or other merchandise from him in previous ocassions. Vyron Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 the carbon fiber ZPI handle is expensive for a scorpion ($87) thanks for the info raul , u got me thinking for something else Quote
earthworm77 Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 If you are looking for funtiovb and not authentic High End price, look at a BPS Hog Handler Deluxe reel handle. I use them on my Scorpion MG's andnthey are great. About 12.00 Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Hey, ReelMech, how much does the drag system cost? This thread is of special interest to me, as I have a scorpion 50mg in the mail (my first). I didn't know I would have to spend even more on it after I got it to make it right. > Quote
CSB Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Those carbon fiber handles are pretty expensive. A guy can buy a sheet of carbon fiber at the local hobby store, spend an hour or two with a Dremel tool, and have 10 of those things for about $30. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 hi_steel_basser, They run $6.00 a set. Carbontex Here But they are for the Scorpion 1000. I haven't seen any for the 50MG.. Tight Lines!!! Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 OK, Thanks. I'll just have to see how I like what comes standard. I read somewhere that they only had about 3-4 lbs of drag standard. Of course, this was after I bought it. I'm planning on using it for a finesse reel anyway, but that little amount of drag is laughable at best. My spinning reels do better. Quote

scbassin Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Just for you information The new Curado 201 DHSV handle fit my Scorpion 1001 mg's like a glove. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I like my scorpion 1001mg with the tuned handle : Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I like my Scorpion MG, Without mods. However, I think a Chronarch mg handle would be great on it. Where do I find one? Quote
scbassin Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I ordered my handles from Shimano. The reason I went with the Curado handle is that is 84mm, a little larger than the Chronarch mg handle. After getting them today I am glad I went for them. Quote
