JHoss Posted Friday at 03:34 PM Posted Friday at 03:34 PM Fothergill's story is incredible. Developed a brain abscess just before the College Bracket. They thought it was a cancerous tumor at first. He had surgery and then fished and won the College Bracket a few weeks later. He won that which set him up to fish the Opens, where he won 2 and qualified for the Elites and Classic. So in the span of like 20 months he almost died, had brain surgery, won the College Bracket, 2 Elite Series events, and the Classic. 34 minutes ago, KP Duty said: It's interesting that he won the super bowl of bass fishing, but most don't consider him the best fisherman in the country. How often does the best fisherman in the country actually win the classic? The last time was probably 2011 when KVD won it and AOY. Fishing is so volatile and unpredictable, I'd almost expect the favorite to not win each time. 19 minutes ago, FishTank said: I have been waiting to see if this lure pops up but the bait I heard that was catching them was a pink bladed jig with a bright pink and blue trailer. Morning Dawn is the actual color I think. Good luck finding one. Lee Livesay was throwing a jackhammer with a pink Flush (6th Sense Fluke) as the trailer. He was fishing it in shallow grass in the back of many of the same pockets Easton was fishing. 3 Quote

Not a bladed jig but this Battle baits 1/2 ounce suppressor in Morning Dawn is one of my most productive springtime lures. Only difference is I use a morning dawn zako on mine instead of a fluke 2 Quote

Those of us who know, know 😁 Anyone who has ever seen my bladed jig box, always has to comment on how many pink baits are in there. 4 Quote

MAN Posted Friday at 08:36 PM Posted Friday at 08:36 PM I'm not surprised at all. Someone could easily win it with some Chubb Creeks; it's just that they wouldn't have any lure sponsor $. 1 Quote

The guy beat everyone and really wasn’t close. Lots of “Scopers” didn’t even crack the top 40. The way he targeted individual fish and lured them out of cover in a methodical fashion was impressive. 4 Quote

IMO, the difference was his area- he found the winning spot. Everyone had to deal with getting fish out of the trees, and I don't recall anyone breaking off. I don't think the sour grapes are directed at Fothergill...it's FFS that people have a problem with. 3 Quote

He was fishing on a stable boat and hooked one on a buzzbait casting from the back, tripped and fell walking to the front of the boat, it jumped and he lost it. A few minutes later they came back to him and he landed a solid on the buzzbait from the same spot. Quote

Anywho...yeah, my 'lol' regarding his lack of a search bait was because I knew he was scoping. Exactly, which is how he knew there was a worthy fish in that tree.. 20 minutes isn’t long, you might remember Denny Brauers Classic win in 98.. 1 Quote
