Jigging raps

A while back I bought some parts and made some.  Today I found bass in 30 fow near the bottom.  They were being picky and would hardly bite anything.  I had one tied on and dropped it over the side.  A fish hit it on the way down but came unbuttoned.  I dropped it back and hooked a second fish with the same result.  I reeled it in looked it over and dropped it back down.  Another one hit it and also came loose.  I’m about to send them to the land fill.  Any tips on fishing them on an open flat near a bluff?

I have a few but have never found a bite with them yet.  I would try some twin assist hooks hanging from the bottom.  They don't catch snags as nearly as bad as a treble and if you go for tinsel the flash would probably be an asset.  Maybe something like these but with a welded or split ring...

I use them for walleyes mostly but have caugh some bass on them.  I mostly hook them on the upward stroke.  Try to let them fall on a controlled slack line.  That means that you are lowering them down with the rod the last few feet, they are not free falling.  That helps feel the bite sooner and reacting sooner, with a more direct line pull. Still, not the easiest bait to use.

if you are losing fish, I would put a split ring between the bottom treble and the hanger.  That should fix the majority of your problem.

They are notorious for not hooking fish well. Not sure any of the knockoff versions have solved the problem but it's a possibility. Cant ever let the pressure off otherwise you're in trouble.
