Went to bass pro before work. For some terminal tackle and baits. Wel I handled the technique carbonlite combo.

really nice rod and reel. Brake adjustment is a little different than my white carbonlites. But other than that a seriosuly nice combo. I was looking at the 7’3” jig combo. With 7.5.1 reel. A MHF rod. To be a do all combo to go with my carbonlites. I’m pretty impressed with them. I’ll be getting one soon.

Picked up the frog and shallow cranking rod today plus one of the reels for that cranking stick. Agreed, they seem like they're gonna punch above their price point. I've got a derby Saturday so hope to give them a good test.

I'm shocked to see a 10 year warranty on a $120 rod.

@JHoss what is different about the brakes? Been eye-balling them too.
Have a 6’6” MHF with no reel on it… just doesn’t look right, haha got get something on there.

Instead of the dial on the center of the side plate it’s a smaller dial on the bottom corner. No big deal just different

@JHossthanks …. Just the mag brakes right…. Centrifugal ones , still take the side cover off

No it has an adjustable dial 1-10 like a carbonlite that you adjust externally. I’d imagine it still has the internal mag brakes as well like a carbonlite. I didn’t look that close

Looking back, I’d be happy running all carbonlite combos. I’ve had a few of the white 2.0s and liked them. Next time I’m at Cabela’s I’ll take a look at those

I love tackle always have. But honestly at the price to quality ratio of the carbonlite combos. For my bank fishing needs. They are just about perfect. I want over stuff. Try to research and debate. But man. These just work wonderful and I fish hard during the season

I've heard good things about the glide bait rod.  For the money the combos don't seem too bad.  The rods look like they will be pretty good and the reels are a bit of an unknown but they do appear to be an aluminum frame Doyo platform and use their time and tested Doyo dual brake.

It's a Lubina too.  The Pro Qualifiers of the 2010s that everyone liked were also a Doyo Lubina.  That doesn't mean this new will be as legendary as the old model but it's a good lineage from a well known reel manufacturer.

It does- 6 mag brakes internally and a slick little pull-out pin to release the sideplate. I wish the side plate stayed connected so I didn't have to worry about dropping it over the side if I have to adjust on the boat.

Been a fan of Carbon lites along time now. On one of my spinning rods I wore down the Winn grip. Gonna go check em out.

Pick one up before tomorrow ends and you can get it on sale to boot! I’ve been eyeing their frog and bladed jig rods for a min.

I know! I’m debating pulling the trigger on the 7’3” MH jig rod as a do all bank fishing rod

I got the frog and shallow crank rods. 6'9" for the frog rod will be the shortest I own. But it feels right and frogs cast a mile anyway, so maybe they're onto something. I wasn't happy with the rod I was using for frogs last year, so why not try something new.

I was very tempted to grab the bladed jog rod. It's much lighter than the one I currently use. But the setup I have now is dialed in after testing many rods, reels and lines, so I decided not to go down that rabbit hole again.

I’ve recently purchased the Carbonlite 6’9” super finesse spinning rod. Put a Platinum series 2000 size reel on it. Seems like a really nice setup. Looking forward to using it as soon as I get our new house finished, hopefully this week 🤞. Then I can put the setup to the test.

The internal ones are the centrifugal brakes.  The brakes use centrifugal force of the rotating spool to compress their retaining spring extending outwards and contact the brass race on the side plate when in the unlocked stage.  The magnets are tied to the external dial and move a set of button magnets closer or away from the aluminum face of the centrifugal brake assembly.  It's a good system that has worked well for a long time.  I set the spool tension to just eliminate side to side play like it came right out of the box (zero adjust), 4 out of 6 pins on and set the mag dial for the need for control.  Higher mag dial when casting into the wind, trying to skip, with baits that slow rapidly or when using a stiff line like fluoro is unruly and needs the low speed control of the magnets at the end of the cast.  For bombing with an easy flowing line and bailt like braid with a frog I run little to no mag brake and let the centrifugals do their job.  It's two braking systems in one reel and I always set them up as a zero adjust centrifugal and use more or less magnets based on bait behavior.

Same as the carbon lite 2.0 white reels. But Man what an explanation! Thanks for the detail. Well

@Bigbox99 Thanks for clarifying. I was playing with those centrifugal brakes last night and it took a minute to figure out how to engage and disengage them. Never did quite figure out how they worked, but now I know. It came with 4 engaged so I left it like that.

Do you have to disengage them two at a time so they balance out? Or could you have 1,3 or 5 engaged at a time?

The old advice was to turn them on in pairs but I've ran odd numbers on other reels with similar brakes without issue.

I picked up one of the new carbonlite reels on sale, the new black ones. It's a sweet little reel for the price. Haven't used it yet, but from what I can tell it's quality. Never tried the dual braking, so that will be interesting. My experience with centrifugal brakes are pretty much set it once and forget about them, so I don't see the removable side plate much of an issue after the initial set up. Reel is very lightweight at 6.4oz.
