What is best 6lb monofilament fishing line? I want to use it as a leader, about 7 feet  connected to 20lb braid. I was using BPS Excel but recently broke two fish off on hook sets. I don't believe that they were particularly big bass or that my knots were bad. I use a 2 rap tuna knot. It's like a palomar but with 2 twist instead of 1. I didn't swing for the fence either.

I use 10lb maxima ultragreen for more than a few years as leader and have been happy.  No unforced breaks.  I can't say it's the best, but I can say it's high quality.

If you’re using it as a leader, you don’t need to worry about factors like suppleness and memory. I suggest Berkley Trilene XT. The XT stands for extra tough and it’s just that. And it’s cheap. And if using it as mainline I suggest the XL version.

yeah, I'm with jar.  I love supernatural as a mainline and fish 6 lb on my trout rod.  But I love it for how supple it is.  For leader its fine, but that's because I have a spool of it.  XT is a good suggestion.  Maxima is also a good hard mono.

Suggest not using the “tuna” knot with small diameter mono or FC line. Twisting the loop when tying a Palomar knot flattens the line at the knot.

Use standard Palomar knot tied correctly without twisting the loop!

5 lb Maxima UG is stronger the most 6 lb mono, 8 would be good for a leader.
