Joedodge Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago So today was the first outing switching from 40 pound braid to 12 pound suffix elite mono on my bp carbonlite 2.0 medium combo. I feel I got better casting distance with the mono. Backlashes are non existent with the brakes set correctly. I was throwing a 3/4 ounce rapala xrap. Which I have always thrown on that combo. I know it’s rated to 5/8 but with braid it worked well. I definitely need to throw that on a medium heavy now. The mono did have some stretch. But the one fish I managed to land today hookset and feel was wonderful. I will be probably swapping my medium heavy over to mono as well. Only reason I’d keep braid on it is to throw a frog this summer. But honestly I’ll probably throw that on mono too lol Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted 10 hours ago Super User Posted 10 hours ago Congrats on having some success with a different approach. Word of friendly advice, leave the braid on the rig you plan on fishing the frog. Especially if there's heavy surface/sub surface soft cover involved, which there almost always is. You'll be glad you did. A-Jay Quote

I’ll probably have to get another set up to frog fish Quote
Dan N Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I too fish 12-15 lb mono on most my baitcasting setups with no issues at all. braid for frogs, and sometimes swim jig. I know a lot of guys speak of stretch, but for pitching jigs and Texas rigs, i really don’t have a lot of line out, so I don’t see it as an issue. Cranks - the rods I use are moderate, so I’m not putting tons of pressure on the line. works for me, and I replace the first 100yards of line a lot. Mono is cheap. Quote

Could not agree more I’ll just replace the line a few times a year. No big deal at all 1 Quote
