Shadcranker Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 My personal favorite is McCoy Mean Green. It's extremely limp and has very little memory. Most standard mono / copoly is far too stiff and tends to twist and loop off the reel. Any other tips on avoiding those blasted loops and twists? Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 19, 2007 Super User Posted February 19, 2007 Power Pro is great on spinning reel. JMHO Ronnie Quote
Fish Man Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 dont rule out sufix both of there mono line ( seige and elite) are great and have in my opinion the least anount of memory ive ever seen Quote
clipper Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Try letting the line off behind the boat with nothing tied on it while the boat is idling at slow trolling speed. The water will pull all the twists out of the line that are put there as it is spooled on the reel. When you start getting the twists and tangles again repeat the process. It will make a big difference. It also helps to stop the line with your finger just before the bait hits the water to avoid extra line jumping off the spool. Make sure the line is tight when you start to wind it back on the reel as well, because that is where the loops will get wound up on the reel. I hold the line between two fingers to make sure it goes on the reel under tension until I have all the slack out. Also, backreel instead of letting a fish pull drag. Every turn of the spool on drag puts one twist in the line. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted February 19, 2007 Super User Posted February 19, 2007 10-20lb. power pro or tuff line. Quote
Garnet Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I avoid the loops by stopping every cast with my finger and closing the bale taking the line off my finger. some people close the bale then give the line a slight pull. These are just things you get use to do and never think about. Garnet Quote
jdw174 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Close the bail MANUALLY. NEVER reel while the fish is pulling drag (beginners do this a LOT). Even doing this, you'll still get some twist in the line....just comes naturally to spinning gear : When it gets too bad, take off the lure and let the line out behind the boat. That will remove the twist....for now. Then reel it back in, and go at it. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted February 19, 2007 Super User Posted February 19, 2007 Big game in 12 lb test solar collector in muddy water and clear in clear water no break offs and fish dont care about seeing your line i can attest to this my personal best was when i was 16 a 10 lbs-4 oz bass on 14 pound stren i didnt no about big game back then but 14 lb stren is way more obvious then 12 lb big game now that i can compare um BTW that bass was caught in 4 foot of water and i saw my manns 10 inch purple worm dissapear into his mouth as i saw him come up to it and then just engulf it so this myth about seein line dont bother me at all BUT i will admit on a pressured lake it does i have seen this first hand even bluegill shy away from the 4 lb sensation i use sometimes OPPs im back to fix this i got way off topic i use trilene XT in green for my spinning rods 6 and 4 lb Quote
