I love this guy...no matter what type of fishing I've been into over the years he's always been my favorite fishing writer and tv fisherman, I just like his demeanor and his writing style. I connect with him and his ideas of selective harvest and also getting away close to home suggesting a fishing trip doesn't need to be expensive or far away to be world class. Also being from small town Iowa like him has given me a huge appreciation for his love of channel catfish. Tonight I'm watching a new interview with him on the YouTube In Fisherman channel and my wife, who refers to him as Mr Doug Stange, says his voice reminds me off your grandfather. So that's just bonus points. Sorry I don't usually fan boy out like this but this man has taught  me alot about catching channel catfish, enjoying every moment outdoors and just appreciating the simple good things in life.

Channel catfish are fun, fight like the devil and will nearly chomp your thumb off. People around here don’t like them because everyone wants to target 50+ lb blues and flathead but the channels are a wild ride that I enjoy. I caught a 24” one burning a spinnerbait and thought it was the biggest SMB ever, olive and brown colored fish that just pummeled the lure near the surface

Being a Charter Member of In-Fisherman had several conversations with Doug and published 2 bass fishing articles for In-Fisherman; A Rare Change for World Record Bass, (lake Isabella ) and Horizontal Jigging.

Doug is a real gentleman.

@DitchPanda Do you remember his old stories catfishing with Otis 'Toad" Smith? Those were classics.

Wow that's quite an accomplishment. I'm very jealous.

absolutely... I've seen catfish fever about a hundred times. Plus I've read the books channel catfish fever and life and times in catfish country over and over.

The In Fisherman main office is in Brainerd/Baxter, MN. I’ve been there (my wife’s family is there, she grew up there). I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him once too. Very reasonable guy.

I learned how to fish a lipless rattle bait like a blade bait

by watching a Doug Stange episode many years ago.

And it's still a big time producer for smallies up in here.

He was fishing a Ripping Rap I think.

I use something else.

In Fisherman has sponsors and rapala is a big one. They are always showcasing rapala products.

And…Lund boats. 🙂
