I am lukewarm on the idea.  but I have a friend rabid to go, and I have permission on private land.

looks like I will buy a tag and go.  I would rather fish, I think.    it would be cool to get him on his second bird ever.  I got him his first.

March 29 opener.  I do however have some recipes in mind.  hahahha

Season is about a month away here in MN. I’m not sure what season I’ll go. Maybe season B or C.

Nothing says spring like a thunderous turkey gobble that echoes across the countryside at dawn.

I’m ashamed to admit I forgot about it until I saw a field of 50 or so last Friday. We’re still about a month away as well. I didn’t buy a tag for myself last year because I wanted to get my son his first but after plenty of losing battles to get his butt out of bed I’m buying my own this year and he’s buying his. That’ll teach him! 😂

They get up in the top of the trees between my house and the neighbors, always scares the crap out of me when they land up there. Sounds like Schwarzenegger heading to the chopper

You’d be surprised how many people don’t know that turkeys roost in trees at night time.

Very few people know this. Can’t count how many times I’ve heard someone ask “turkeys sleep in trees?”

They’d sure know when they see and/or hear it, clumsy things. I would have swore there were 75 people or a dump truck going thru the woods the other day while fishing and it was a few turkeys kicking leaves and flying up into tree tops and then from one tree to the other, violent crash landings 😂

They sound like bombs shaking off sleep and dropping from the trees.   They never come down directly. They glide out about a 100 yards depending on the tree height.

They can fly up to 55mph too, albeit for a very short time. And to think, that ugly bird was going to be our national bird. 😂

Oof…There was what looked like a Jake standing on the corner of a traffic light in south Charlotte earlier this week in the middle of the day.  I almost wrecked the car pointing him out to my coworkers. It looked like he was going from the BP station to Nothing but  Bundts. One of the crazier wildlife things I’ve seen.

Well my wife started the turkey season off with a Jake. She took the Jake from 0 yards away with a Chevy Blazer at 50 mph.

The actual season doesn’t start for another three weeks and the Blazer thankfully is fine. The turkey, not so much. 😂

My wife has hit so many deer that I actually had a license plate made for her that looked like a Pa. Hunting license. I told her now she’s all legal. She didn’t seem very appreciative. Go figure 🤔

Agreed!

I love the old WKRP in Cincinnati skit..."as god as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly..."

Why yes, they can fly(!)

EVER EXPERIENCE THIS?

Several years ago I was wade fishing in Northern Illinois.  When I stepped up on the bank a turkey flew up right under my feet and landed in the water about 20 feet away.  It casually swam around in circles like it was a goose, clucking away the whole time;  eventually it swam to the opposite bank and walked into the woods while I was checking my underwear.

Spurs were 1” +.

I fell down a hillside (while carrying the bird) and a spur got me good.
