Hey Loomis Posse.  There seem to be a bunch of Loomis aficionados on this board so am needing some input.  Looking at getting an IMX or splurge for the GLX and this will be my first Loomis.  I've seen a few different models of rods that people likethe MBRs, the BCRs, with different actions M-2, MH-3, H-4.  If I want a good plastics/all around set up with a heavier baitcaster (14lb/195yds), what would be a good model to get??  Obviously, would probably use this set up the most.

Thnx

The BCR854C seems to be the rod of choice for "those in the know." However, I don't have one, so I will suggest comparing that rod to the GLX MBR844C, the "old" standard bearer. For jigs and soft plastics, I HIGHLY recommend the GLX, for other applications the IMX is fine.

Reel suggestion:

I think the Shimano Calcutta CT400B will meet your line capacity requirement (14/260), but that's a heavy reel and you don't need that for bass. If your set up is intended for multi-species (striper/ sturgen/ salmon/ light saltwater?), this would be a great option, but if it is purely for bass and you want a round reel, the CTE200GT is THE BOMB!

My heavy jig, big spinnerbait and striper rig is a GLX MBR844C/ Shimano CTE200GT.

I have both rods that RW mentioned in his post, both are GLX and both are great rods. That being said, if I could have only 1 rod, it would be an MBR844c. You will find yourself using it for almost everything. For soft plastics/jigs I highly recommend the GLX, you will never be sorry..............Al

Thanks RoadWarrior.  Actually, I already have the reel and it is a muti species/multi environment reel.the TD Luna 253.   It handles senkos just fine and the lowest it can go is about ¼ oz.  Probably more comparable to a 300 line of Shimano though.  I do love that reel and it does real good in saltwater too.  Not using the Loomis in saltwater thoughI have BPS rods for that.

I think they answered your ?'s.  If your want a "jig worm rod" go bcr.  But if you want more of an all around rod go MBR.

Most of my fishing is done with the 3 and 4 powers in the bcr or mbr.

Its the reels fault you can't cast under 1/4 oz. weights, its the rods fault, or the line your using. ;)Ivan

If I could only have one rod, it would be the MBR844C. You can fish anything with it. JMHO

I have the MBR844 IMX and love it. I would go with the MBR844 if I were you. Why wouldn't you use it in saltwater. I use all my g-loomis rods in saltwater and have never had any problems.

MBR844 sounds real good to me.  Getting a GLX would use up all my gift cards but hey, you only live once and they'll be more birthdays, christmas-es, anniversaries ..... for more gift cards ...... to buy more fishing gear.  d**n that monkey to hell.

I gotta use my BPS inshore rods for something......and they are not bad rods for their purpose.

What reel do you guys have on your 844s??  I'll probably put a lighter reel on it.....at some point.  Maybe.

Thanks for the responses....

I use a Shimano Calais CL200 on my MBR844C and it's a fisherman's dream, but almost any low profile reel will shine on this rod. JMHO
