hey,

those who own any, what do you think of their limited offerings? I have only owned the cranking rod with orange accents for 5 or 6 years now, and it's pretty awesome. it says the guides are SiC too, very uncommon for a rod under $200 from what I can tell. it just feels nice in the hand and the fit and finish seems really nice. I like the blank being high gloss, but maybe thats also because it's a glass rod lol. I've heard back then the rods were higher quality or used to be made in USA, something like that. I can only speak for the cranking rod and it's awesome

Castaway has fallen off the planet tbh. I live here in Houston where they used to make them. Still have an old 6’6 medium heavy that’s a broom stick. The Invitica used to be a popular rod down here for reds/trout on the coast.

For $200 I’ll go to Falcon Rods. Maybe Castaway has some nice rods still, I could be wrong!

I believe Billy Kistler was part of castaway after all star was bought out. Like all star and Lews they are a older company with new ownership.

He owns Pride rods now .

yeah the crankbait rod they sell was only 150 or 160 with SiC guides too, I don't think you will find many rods from other companies using SiC guides on rods under $200. I can only vouch for the crankbait rod

I have never fished one. They seem popular in and around Texas which would make sense.

I believe he uses NFC blanks or at least did.

I used to be sponsored by CastAway and loved the offerings.  I left because I went with a rep group that pushed Quantum/Zebco.  I still have a lot of the older CastAway rods.  My absolute favorite rod of all time is a Skeleton.  I have a couple Invictas and a David Dudley worm rod as well as a lot of their normal sticks.  As a rule they are a heavier action than advertised but they are the toughest rods I’ve ever thrown.  As a matter of fact, my favorite dropshot rod is a Skeleton that is 15 years old.  Looks like it was dragged down a gravel road but still performs like new.  That rod has caught hundreds of fish.

Years after mine was stolen, I found another East Texas Grass Rake at a garage sale. And the name is very accurate but this was the perfect punching rod before the term was invented.
