fishinnont Posted March 9 Posted March 9 The one time ive used it, it was horrible. I used 15# braid and I got a ton of wind knots, the line started fraying, and for some reason the thing had memory. Braid should not have memory. Quote
MiceNReets Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I like spiderwire for 40-65lbs. Anything below and I’ve had terrible experiences. Quote
PBBrandon Posted March 9 Posted March 9 The 8 strand stealth smooth is pretty good and the regular 4 strand stealth is okay. Wouldn’t touch their EZ Braid with a 10 foot pole, that stuff is awful. I tend to stick with PowerPro and Sufix 832 when it comes to braid. 2 Quote
VTFan Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I tried Spider Wire and immediately hated that stuff! To me it was very stiff and almost felt brittle. I agree with PBBrandon on the 832 and PowerPro. Quote
greentrout Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Been using Spider Wire Stealth for years. Use KVD line conditioner. 20lb. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 9 Global Moderator Posted March 9 @PBBrandon nailed it with the EZ Braid, that stuff is terrible. I did have good luck with a a different model in the heavier pound test. Seaguar Smackdown has been consistent in all pound test for me so I’ve stuck with that for many years now. Quote
MonsterZero Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I have used it for decades without issue. It is not my favorite, but I am not hesitant or upset about using it. 1 Quote
JHoss Posted Monday at 02:28 PM Posted Monday at 02:28 PM HATE IT. Had terrible experiences with it in the salt 20 years ago where 30-40 lb would randomly break off in the middle of the spool. Bought a spool of 10 lb last year and while I didn't break any off, it frayed worse than any braid I've ever seen. Quote
Sp33dSnake Posted Monday at 11:54 PM Posted Monday at 11:54 PM It causes a more likely chance of wind knots on my open bell reels, seems to cause more backlashes on baitcasters (even with backing), and I've broken some off where the situation didn't seem like it should've broke. I wouldn't use Spiderwire in any application I fish in. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted Tuesday at 12:09 AM Super User Posted Tuesday at 12:09 AM I tried it years ago and it was bad. So it's a no for me. Quote
LCG Posted Tuesday at 01:43 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:43 AM Same here, tried it once didn't last long. Cheap Amazon braid is far better than spire wire. Power pro and suffix 832 are good, although I don't like waxy coatings on line. Once I learned to close the bail manually and pull tight before reeling, I can't remember the last time I had a wind knot even with different brands of reels. Braid does well in and around vegetation, it doesn't like rocks and wood can be iffy. I prefer yo zuri hybrid for those situations for better abrasion resistance. Quote
dk2429 Posted Tuesday at 04:29 AM Posted Tuesday at 04:29 AM Junk. Fins Windtamer, Sufix 832, of nothing. Quote
ABU is overpriced Posted Tuesday at 12:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:46 PM Used to use it when i got into fishing 25y ago. Havent used it in over 15 years, and with products like the sufix 832 and Berkley X9, i don't see the reason to bother. Surprised this brand didn't go under because i never hear anything about it, no marketing nor people using it. Quote

Johnbt Posted Wednesday at 06:55 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:55 PM I've been using Spiderwire Invisi-Braid in 10, 15 and 20 for decades. Some of my friends bought thousand-yard spools and the stuff fishes great and lasts forever. On spinning reels mostly in the lighter weights. I even use it in the surf for the lighter spinning rods with up to 3-ounce sinkers. Now I see they sell something called Spiderwire Ultracast Invisibraid-Translucent. It's always started out white and quickly turned blotchy camo-stained green in the water we usually fish. Quote
WaskaCrank12 Posted Thursday at 01:45 AM Posted Thursday at 01:45 AM I had nothing but wind knots, break offs and other problems with SpiderWire - so I use any leftover rolls I have for other purposes (ie, tying up trash bags before putting them in the bin) - Sufix 832 and Daiwa Samurai have been very good for me Quote
GReb Posted Thursday at 03:24 AM Posted Thursday at 03:24 AM I used it for a bit 7-8 years ago because it was what Walmart had at the time I needed it and didn’t have any real issues. But it faded really bad. Quote
