Looking for a jig

Im looking for a jig that is similar in size to the Dirty Jigs Luke Clausen Compact Pitchin' Jig but has a longer hook to hold trailers better.  The shank on the compact jig is real short so you end up cutting trailers way back.  Any suggestions?

What's less than stellar about the regular Luke Clausen pitchin jig?  Line tie orientation?

No I like it but also want one with a hook shank that is a little longer so I dont have to trim back my trailer so much.

OutKast Cage Feider is my favorite compact jig. It is short on the hook size but I just bite off some of the plastic.

Why not just keep the jigs you have and buy a smaller trailer?  I like the 3.5in Xzone Adrenaline Craw and the OSP Dolive Beaver. 

 

Also, I think the Dirty Jigs Tour Level Pitching jig is the bigger version of the Compact.

A compact jig by definition should have the trailer shortened. Going back to the old Eakins jigs I pull 3 rings off of a speed craw.

Long hook - I love the @Siebert Outdoors grass jig.  It is my favorite swim jig currently but it's also great for working through vegetation or around laydowns and rocky banks.

 

Do NOT sleep on the 1 oz or 1 and 1/2 oz for flipping.

I agree. I throw the LC compact jig a lot with a Missile Mini D chunk. Smaller jig = smaller trailer. I also use the Tour Level jig a lot with a Rage Craw.

Im using SK scounbugs and half to cut half the body with the DJ Luke Clausen Compact

When I throw a “smaller” jig, I usually throw a 1/4-3/8. I just trim my skirt way back, and shorten a crawfish trailer of some type or a chunk of some type and BAM! Works just fine when needed..

So here is the Compact with a 3.5in Adrenaline Craw and the full size with 4in Adrenaline Bug. I usually don't throw black/blue with a green pumpkin jig but I couldn't find my packages of Bama Craw so hopefully you get the idea. Also, I usually cut the tip off just enough to get them to fit flush but didn't on these.

 

To me you should be good with a 3.5in trailer. Also,  the SK craws to me are really slick and have a hard time staying on anyway. Good trailers though.

A bit off topic... @FishTank love the adrenaline craw as a jig trailer too, does that xzone bug have the same tall meaty body or is it kind of thin like most other beavers/bugs?

It's more like a beaver. There's not much action to it but the fish still hit it.

How have yours held up? I like mine and they're awesome for wood and stuff, but it's mildly annoying how easily the heads chip.

This is actually why I prefer the matt herren flippin' jig...and powder coated jig heads in general...also prefer a 3.5" adrenaline craw on the back of it fwiw.

also like their bugs...the 4" bug is a significantly fatter body but about as wide as the adrenaline 3.5" craw and the tail would be a bit longer...comparing it to a similar size rage bug it's wider but a bit shorter...overall I like them a lot but usually just go w/ an adrenaline craw as a trailer on a herren flippin' jig and save these bugs for a texas rig w/ a 3/8oz weight since they do great at coming in and out of some of the nastier grass we get down here.

The DJ casting jig has a lighter wire hook and thinner guard so you can set it at distance.

Greenfish has the Tackle Badger

Greenfish makes a HD version too.  Bigger hook and recessed line tie.

 

Picasso old school rubber dock rocket.  Theyre expensive, but quality is great.

Beast Coast Double wide if you want to throw into heavy cover.  For whatever reason they're discontinuing them and there aren't too many around, limited colors.  BC makes the some of the best skirts on the market, handtied with tinsel.
