I have the itch to continue to replace some more reels and I posted last fall looking for reels like the shimano mgl and after some discussion I purchased curado mgl 70's from AE for what I think is a decent price. Looking at prices and they are about the same but what kind has me scratching my head is the slx 70 reels which I know are newer model but they pretty much are the same price as I can get the curado mgl's for. I know the curado has an extra bearing on the pinion shaft I believe and I think it should be the better reel but not sure why except its an older reel as to why the prices are so close. The only thing I wish I could get in the curado mgl is a 6.x gear ratio, looks like I can only get the 6.x version in the 150 size. My other choice is to save some $$ and purchase slx xt's.

Just thought I would ask and see what I am missing between the two reels.

The only advantage the new SLX 70 A has over the Curado 70 MGL is the MGL 3 spool and silent tune, other than that the Curado 70 MGL has few more features and built a little better IMO.

I would try and find a leftover SLX MGL 70, same applies for the SLX XT's too.

The new 70 A and XT A have very mixed reviews, they seem to be lacking what made them special. And also quality control.

I wouldnt suggest ordering either of the new A series ones from any place that isnt an authorized dealer in the US, because you may need that warranty once or a few times. (maybe the JDM 24 SLX which is what they call the 70 is made better though?)

The last gens sell around $60-100 used or new on auction sites and from Japanese sellers, these are a steal. IMO they are better than the Zillion, the new ones not so much. Get a Curado if same price.

I was wondering this too.  My guess is that the SLX 70 is not on the chinease market so sellers on AE are importing then from vendors outside china.  You see this with the Fuego CT on AE when you can sometimes find a seller with reels going for what the china market Fuego SV CS goes for because they are importing them from the US and paying Daiwa US prices.

That would make sense and I havent thought about that. The curado should still should be better since they have x-ship, a bearing that supports the pinon. I do not believe m the slx 70 has that. Ive seen some used slx mgl 70s on auction sites from japan sellers but not sure about the used part, lol.

I used to buy new from Japan but my last 6 reels have been used from the Japan auctions for fraction of the cost of new. The descriptions so far on quality have been spot on.  Just got a 2016 steez sv for $122usd and I have no complaints.  So I wouldn’t count out used gear.  Other reels I got were ‘17 scorpion dc, ‘16 metanium dc, ‘18 bantam mgl, ss sv103  and ‘20 metanium.   No issues with any.

I assume we are talking about the normal popular auction site? I wouldnt mind finding a scorpion mgl but the ones I have seen are more than I would want to pay but understand there are some decent deals from time to time.
