Buying a new reel for a Dobyns Fury 734C. DC or no DC

The two reels I had in mind to pair with this rod are a Curado DC and a Bantam Mgl. Both would be XG for a swimbait/top water setup. Is the DC worth it for someone who knows how to cast a baitcaster?

Not really... only when its windy. That does not mean its a bad reel, they are actually really good and if you buy it will work great. I use mine to bomb chatterbaits and it does the job 0 complains 

 

Forgot, I would personally buy over a Bantam

I would and will buy another bantam.  I cannot say the same about a curado dc.  Nothing is wrong with the curado, it's just the bantam is far superior.  Digitaka has a bantam for $232 right now and would be where I'd order it from.

I used to have the Curado DC but sold it, I remember it being pretty good when using braided line on 1 and 2 settings. FC line on 3 or 4 settings not so much, very restrictive on those mode and casting distance is not very good IMO.

 

If you are an experienced bait caster user, then you'll appreciate 22 Bantam better.

It is not even a question.  22 Bantam is superior to the DC.

 

Though if you are paying full retail, I still firmly believe the curado mgl is the bang for the buck reel to get.

if you want a Curado, I agree with @Rockhopper. The 150MGL Curado is an amazing reel and the best value reel Shimano makes

Yes, they are two different reels.

 

I agree with the comments above on the DC vs Bantam. I had a Curado DC and I sold it. It wasn't a BAD reel. It just felt bulky, and in my opinion the braking was inconsistent. Eventually the noise got on my nerves too.

 

I don't have a '22 Bantam MGL, but I have a 2018 Bantam MGL and really like it. It doesn't cast light stuff very well with the closer line guides, but does great with 3/8oz and up jigs and chatterbaits and is buttery smooth!. I've heard the 2022 version has much improved casting after they moved the line guide further away from the spool. 

 

I do also have the Curado MGL and love it. I think you would be happy with either the Curado MGL or the Bantam MGL. My personal preference is Bantam over the Curado. The Bantam is heavier, but built like a tank.

I have both the Bantam, and the Curado 150 DC.  well, I had the Curado, until my friend Trebuchet'd it  into a beautiful Mexican lake (last week).    therefore, I am now TELEWORKING today to greet my FedEX dude/dudette to receive my NEW Curado MGL 150 DC.  I considered it good enough to order another ASAP.

 

they are really different.   I use the Curado for moving baits.   something I want from that is to simply hurl them as far as I can.  nothing will send a LV500 further to cover water better (in my hands). a deep diving crank is going for a long distance trip sent from the Curado.  I dont love the weeeeeee sound that much, but I ignore it.  close distance casting to cover, any of my reels can do that.

 

after my Curado went sinking, I put the cranks on the Bantam and I lost a lot of distance.  I still got fish, sure.  but nowhere was I throwing those "did you see that?" kinda casts.  and because of the wind, I had the brake at #3!!!  it was flat out flinging them.  #2 would be insanity.   I have backlashed that reel, so it isn't magic.  

 

I considered a Scorpion out of Japan, but nah...I am good with the Devil I know.  they both (Bantam/CuradoDC) seem to weigh similar to me.  but I dont do that balance a rod on my finger thing at all.

fairly often now.  You can set an alert on their website if you create an account.

 

And I know its a little more money, but if you're going to spend $230 for a JDM bantam you might as well throw in the extra $30 and get the Met.  For what you're describing, you don't need the extra weight or brass gears from the bantam and the Met is a fantastic reel.

Whats the difference between the Metanium and the metanium 100? Its listed as two different things on digitaka.

Pretty sure the 100 has a little deeper spool and that's it.  the 100 is a 2023 release model while the regular met is a 2020.  but the frames and everything else are the same.

The JDM 20 Met B has a 70 size spool.  And the JDM Met B's have the smaller handles/knobs than the USDM versions.

The 22 bantam is so much better than the 18 in my opinion. It’s more comfortable, feels lighter, and casts better. The 18 bantam was like holding a brick

Yes, but he was asking between the two JDM versions.  Handles and knobs will be the same.  And I think the spool external specs are the same on both reels, just that the met 100 has a smaller arbor to allow a bit more line.  Not that I find the 20 Met to be lacking in that area.

I had Curado DC 151 and 201, sold both. Goods reels, regular casting distance, great for windy conditions. 

Have both Bantam 18´ and 22´. Great casting (22´ better), super smooth. For me, the coresolid body make a difference, its really feel the power when retrieve.
