Here's some powerfully effective tackle, a string, stick, and old plastic bottle:

I wish I could Hunker like that again and be comfortable doing it.

The kid has found that hunkering doubles his success rate, so take some yoga classes so that you too can hunker!

Wife and I were in Costa Rica a few weeks back for vacation. Rented a car...saw some kids fishing like this off a bridge....

Of course the smarty-pants wife said, "hey, look at those kiddos fishing with bottles...I'll bet they catch more fish than you with that fancy boat!"

HA!  Well played!

That kid outfishes all of us if you compare the size of his body to the size of his catch.

Even as primitive as this kids fishing gear is, I would wager a months pay that he has his favorite bottles, sticks, line, hooks and would argue for hours over what is the best knot to use. He may even measure the length of his sticks, and I'm sure he acts like nothing is going on if he gets a bite, and anther angler is walking by.

Saw a video a few years ago of a bush man type dude casting and reeling by hand very quickly.  He would whack the fish over the head with a stick and keep moving.

I wonder how important stick sensitivity is to him.

Considering that there's carbon in wood and that wood is made of fibers, he was fishing with carbon fiber rods.
