Brycecover Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I’m looking for a new rod for finesse jigs and lighter Texas rigs, which I’m thinking I would want a medium fast. If you recommend any other power let me know. I’m also looking for the specific model you would pick for around 200. If it’s more expensive that’s fine if it’s worth it. I had a falcon expert that I lost at a lake which was my favorite rod, and I’ve looked at the cara too. Let me know of any deals or anything on rods thanks in advance Quote
rangerjockey Posted February 28 Posted February 28 If your talking about fishing a 5/16 ball head I think it's pretty tough to beat the Cara finesse jig in that price range. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted February 28 Super User Posted February 28 I use a St. Croix Premier mh/f for all sizes of jigs. I don't like a medium because even though a jig might weighs less, I'm still going to pitch it into the same type of cover, and brush. Quote

Getting a new rod anyway because I want something even nicer than I have though. 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted March 2 Super User Posted March 2 go cheaper maybe. I think the Med Phenix Maxim throws finesse jigs awesome. very sensitive. goofy looking (to me), but I still use the spinning version everyday out on the water. I bought several Maxims and leave them in Texas for my trips back. Quote

If they are all 150, I would prefer a 6’11 or 7’ Quote

What I was trying to say is that this one model that I linked is comparable to much higher priced rods. I think it's the best bang for the buck rod that I've ever fished. scott The MC Days line up is more available out of japan, the store I linked is out of singapore and is reputable. I'm up to about a dozen orders out of them over the years. Shipping is included, but slow ish. About 2 weeks. Quote

It spends a lot of time in my car when I'm stuck in the city and find some time to throw at some smallies in the harbors. Jigs, tubes, free rigs, underspins, hair jigs, and spoons are my normal baits. scott 1 Quote

What setup do you think would be good for finesse jigs and light Texas rigs If I’m using flouro instead of braid? Do you think I should still use a medium heavy rated down to 1/4 or a medium rated lower? Quote

Do you think I should still use a medium heavy rated down to 1/4 or a medium rated lower? I think you can't go wrong with either. I have fished braid to leader for almost 15 years, but do use 15-25' floro leaders because of zebra mussels. I tend to catch a lot of my fish by throwing smaller and larger baits than "normal", somewhat limiting my need for MH. I have bought too much stuff over the years, but my breakdown is 6 medium, 6 heavy, and 4 MH rods. Do you expect to throw 1/4oz most often? I'd go Medium power. Throw 3/8oz most often? in cover? I'd go MH. scott 2 Quote
