I'm Back from Mexico, and now I need a new reel. :(

I sat down, and laid my rod down and out of the way..  I was frantically tying on a deep diving crank and was struggling a tiny bit without my reading glasses.. I hear a loud clack, and the line disappears from my pinched fingers.  I look up befuddled and I see my rod (well, the guides-rod + my reel) sinking into the lake.  "NOOOOOOOOO!"

 

my fishing bud lost track of his surrounding and shut off situational awareness and had casted with too much line hanging off his rod tip.  his crank, hooked my rod and basically flung it Trebuchet style into lake Picacho.  that one hurt...hurt bad.   it was a Curado MGL150 DC attached that rod and it sank fast as F.  deep water.  

 

I thanked the heavens it wasn't my lucky Zillion or Bantam..and clipped a lure off and started tying the crank on a new rod.  my guide tried trolling for my stuff, but it was a goner...the wind moved us off the spot immediately.  

 

I love that DC reel.  it was my Oklahoma reel where I needed to "Surf cast" to the horizon for Stripers.  and in Mexico, it flung a big deep crank so far, my guide would sometimes applaud in jest.  in wind, there is no rival (in my hands).  

 

I might take this opportunity to upgrade to a Met DC but need to verify line capacity.  (and cost). my friend wants to buy me a new DC, but it was an accident.  he didnt do it on purpose..and my friendships hold zero grudges..

And now you have a real excuse to have to buy more gear. Silver linings!

I did the same thing to a buddy rod and reel last summer. Luckily he was able to grab it out of the water before it sank. 

 

I told him I was incredibly sorry and that if there was any damage that I would replace his combo. It was my fault. 

 

But everything worked out and there wasn't damage to anything. We are still friends

I was bank off the bank a couple of years ago and snagged my 2nd rig, which I had propped up in a bush.  It only went out into the lake maybe two or three feet so I was able to get it back quickly.

Great excuse for a new outfit. Things like that happen when out in nature.

Reminds me of a time my brother-in -law and I went to Florida fishing. He bought a brand new cast net so we could catch our own bait and save a few bucks. I said I’d give it the first try and proceeded to toss the net, opening nicely fifteenth feet into the ocean, watching it sink forever out of sight! I had not tightened the wrist strap and the whole shebang went flying, lost forever.

To this day we still laugh about it and he never lets me forget what a great cast net tosser I am.

I did buy a new net but we never did catch any bait. Fishing experience can be funny at times, and painful at others.
