Lucky Craft Man Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I have a G Loomis IMX rod that I want to put braid on. I was wondering if anyone had any issues with the guides grooving on the IMX rods? I heard there had been some issues with the GLX rods doing this, but wasn't sure if anyone had problems with the IMX. Thank you in advance for your help. Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 The IMX rods come with Alconites, which are perfectly fine with braid... You are thinking of the Recoil guides on the BCR and BCFR rods. The problems you heard about are only with Recoil tip tops and Loomis doesn't use the Recoil tip tops. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 Thanks Flechero for the response. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 not true,my buddy had 10 glx rods without recoil guides replaced for guides getting grooved. Quote
lubina Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I just checked the 6 rods I use braid on, Airrus,GL2, 3 IMXs and a GLX....not a mark. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 I have 2 GLX and 5 IMX Loomis rods some with years of braid use and no grooves, not even a mark on my guides. This is my personal experience. Ronnie Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 alpster, what size braid do you use.my buddy was using 10/2 powerpro.i think maybe the really thin line might be what causes it.it may not happen with thicker braids. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 Dodgeguy, I always use 50lb PowerPro on bait casters. I also use the lighter lines (20lb/6dia) on the spinning gear and have had no problems there either. I think what happens sometimes is, a lot of guys (including me) use braids in nasty cover and thick weeds. I think that the few who are having trouble with screwed up guides are just not paying attention to the crap that clings to the line when they fish in this stuff. The line itself isn't hurting the guides, it's the debris that acts as an abrasive. I keep a towel handy to wipe the muck off the line every few casts when working thick veggies and I think it saves the guides. This is just my experience. Your mileage may vary. Ronnie Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 you may be right.i have never had powerpro damage even a regular fuji aluminum oxide guide.that's why i'm so amazed he had these problems on glx rods. Quote
