10,000 lakes Bassin Posted yesterday at 04:17 AM Posted yesterday at 04:17 AM The Expride 610 m/mf is one of the most popular jerkbait rods, but I've never heard much about it for crankbaits. How would this Expride rod specifically, and some 10 or 12lb fluoro work as my main rod to throw DT6's, kvd 1.5s, 1/2oz traps, and other crankbaits 1/2oz or less? Its rated up to 3/4oz so even stuff as big as a DT10 or a 5XD would be in its range although that might be a stretch. Quote
Dan N Posted yesterday at 04:57 AM Posted yesterday at 04:57 AM I would say it would be perfectly fine for most cranks 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I have the SLXCX610M which is supposed to be the SLX version of that rod which is allegedly very similar. Definitely an excellent budget jerkbait rod that will certainly throw and retrieve small to mid-size crankbaits, and the medium power means that it still has enough give to keep fish pinned effectively. But I do have other rods that I prefer for crankbaits that are both 7'6" with a mod-fast action. 2 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted 18 hours ago Super User Posted 18 hours ago Tie on a crankbait and find out. I use med / mod-fast rods for my light crankbait fishing and they work well. 2 Quote
Brian11719 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I've got a Dobyns Kaden 6104cb which I like to think of as the poor man's version of this rod. It does best with jerkbaits and topwater poppers (I swap out the reel for 30lb braid for these). Aside from that I also like to use it to throw a Lucky Craft LVR D or a bladed jig at the pond I go to. It would also do well for throwing something like a squarebill and targeting cover like brush piles. It could also work with crankbaits, but the big draw back would be that it's a shorter rod which would usually equate to shorter casts and less time for the crankbait to be in the water which is why I'd prefer to go with a longer rod for open water applications. Pretty sure it would be the same scenario if I had the Expride instead of the Kaden... Quote

I don't throw a lot of mid-sized crankbaits, but bottom hopping a trap and blade bait on the expride 6'10M is very effective. scott 1 Quote

I always heard the most popular rod for jerkbaits was a fast-extra fast? I dont know about that rod specifically but i got a Lews Custom Pro thats 7' M MF i plan on using for crankbaits. Its rated 1/8-1/2. I plan on throwing most of my smaller cranks or bigger ones that are light/non areodynamic, i have a few moderate cranking rods but find them too stiff towards the middle and bottom to throw most lighter cranks i own. The MF really suites my needs for cranks. With the Expride B rated 1/4-3/4 i think this would be really good for 2.5 KVD's, some shallow RKCrawlers, and stuff in that area of weight and size. 1 Quote
Hogs_n_Logs Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Should be completely fine. I've always felt that the advantage of slow action rods for crankbaits is overstated. In fact in my experience a "fast" action rod that has a good tip(ie a good jerkbait rod) will often be able to fish a larger variety of cranks than standard crankbait rods, the backbone allows it to not get overpowered retrieving oversized or deep divers but it can still fish light cranks effectively due to the whippy tip. 1 Quote
MRQturbo Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I'll be throwing top waters and square bills on my expride 610m if needed... 1 Quote

I believe Tacticalbassin has popularized that model. I know they’re just a YouTube channel but I see that specific rod everywhere online now. I definitely think they helped it become a popular. Quote

She went 8lb 9oz, but was pushing 27" long. 4 Quote
