Super User 5bass Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 Which is the better buy? What are the significant differences between the two? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 Just purchased an IMX MBR844C and I was asking myself this same question at the time. I still have not come up with a solid answer as to the benefits of each but I do own a MBR 783GLX and a BCR 803GLX. The BCR 803 is by far the most sensitive rod I have ever used and has a definate advantage when it comes to jigs and worms. However, the MBR 783 is better at casting crankbaits (the tip is not as soft) but put a senko on the 803 and be prepared to be blown away. The 783 is still my favorite and general go to rod, based on how versitale it is. Anyway, I hope to see a lot of opinions and thoughts on this question. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I was wondering the same thing myself. I ordered a IMX MBR843c tuesday and yesterday I was looking through the BPS catalog agin and was trying to figure out what set them apart Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 As near as anyone can tell, MossyBacks are IMX graphite rods. It seems that Loomis has designated MossyBack as the IMX version of their "BCR" SPECIALTY RODS, e.g. Jig & Worm, Senko, Bass/Cast/Flip and Carolina Rig rods. It looks like marketing more than anything. These rods are sold as GLX and MossyBack only, there is no "IMX" version available. No need to compare the two, because you can't buy the same mossyback rod in an IMX and conversely you can't buy their traditional rods MagBass, SpinJig etc. in a mossyback. I think it is safe to say that Mossyback is IMX quality. JMHO Ronnie Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 According to Loomis in the press releases and quotes from the original show release, the Mossyback is actually a different grahpite and is in between the GL-3 and IMX. (but there was no technical explanation offered as to the actual differences so we don't know if it's a material, scrim or both) So by popular thinking, the IMX might be a hair "better" if you had same models, but as was stated, you can't get the same models in mossyback as IMX so for now, you can't compare them head to head. The IMX is less expensive. If you search back several (not sure how many) months, there were links posted to the articles with quotes from Loomis staff members, describing them with some comparisons.
