G_Money_FL Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I am currently using Power Pro and I like it, but I am considering trying another braid. I am specifically looking for a braid that has a smoother feel, will cut into the spool less, and have longer lasting color. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations? I am considering the 3 choices below: Sufix Performance Braid SpiderWire UltraCast Stren Super Braid Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 13, 2007 Super User Posted February 13, 2007 sufix braid is your answer.forget the color.buy a permaneny marker and recolor it.they all fade. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 13, 2007 Super User Posted February 13, 2007 You are going to get many opinions on whose is better. My advice to you is to buy a small spool of differant lines that you want to try , form your own opinion and go from there. I used stren super braid last year and this year I'm going to try the sufix braid. It has a 6.00 rebate . Oh by the way. WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I know it's not a choice, but Cabelas Ripcord Si Plus is an extremely good braid. I have used many braids and I like this one the best. It's very limp and knots hold very well. They offer it in Green and Yellow (depending if seeing your line is important or not). In my humble opinion, there is nothing better then their braid. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Count me in with the sufix people.............I dont really use braid a whole lot, but I do like this stuff. ;D Quote
sal669 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Power Pro for me ! For discoloration: 1-permanent marker 2- live it alone, fish don't care 3- don't be cheep, cut off a couple feet now and then ; Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 13, 2007 Super User Posted February 13, 2007 I like Sufix but PowerPro is my favorite. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 13, 2007 Super User Posted February 13, 2007 G_Money_FL, Welcome aboard! BTW, dodgeguy has been Mr. Power Pro for as long as I can remember. Now he is using and recommending Sufix... That's a BIG statement! Quote
G_Money_FL Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 Thanks for all the info and the warm welcomes. I am going to give the Sufix a try. I'd like to try them all, but the Bait Monkey has better ideas for my money. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I love power pro and have found no reason to change. It is on all of my reels (even ice fishing) except for a spinning reel I just put Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft # 6 on (guess why). It is a great line. Quote
New Bass Man Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Fishing line is not that expensive. Try both and see which one you like best. I did. I don't have a real preference one way or the other. I fish both. I fished Power Pro the longest but a friend was fishing suffix so I tried that too. Both are good in my opinion. Quote
Garnet Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Power Pro is the heavy wieght champ you can get it anywere in any size. All the rest of these copy braids nice to try but if you find something you like buy the shelf and ask for more. Most come from China and the stores will make 1 order every season. Power Pro is from Colardo made and shipped so you can get it any time any were. Garnet Quote
Triton21 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I pulled the trigger on some 50 lb Power Pro today. Hope I like it. Kelley Quote

Bass Mekanik Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Suffix never had a problem with it yet. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 I guess I am the oddball here, I don't like power pro, I have been using spider wire stealth, and while I like it better than Power Pro, I bought Spiderwire Ultra cast to try this season, also am going to try Suffix. TO me, the stealth is a little quiter running htrouh the guides, ties better knots , and holds it's color better than power pro (like most have said they all fade), but I found the power pro to be almost white after 1 day of fishing, it takes stealth 4-6 weeks to reach that point. Super User T-rig Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 WELCOME! Power pro works great for me but tuff is very similar and i also use it. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 Aren't each of these lines made of the same material... Spectra? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if not, what is the processing difference that makes one better than the next? Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 The forerunner of the high-tech super lines was Spectra line, a German kite-string made of non-stretch "braided polyurethane". Once the stage was set, several super lines made their debut in rapid succession. The first super line to appear on the angling scene was TUF Line, a braided polyurethane, the same as spectra line, but with added dacron for better colorization. Hot on its heels were braided "Kevlar" by Dupont and braided "polyethylene" by Fenwick, but both lines were short-lived as they failed the test of time. Ironically, PowerPro Spectra IS "Braided Polyurethane" the same material as the original German kite-string! Kevlar and polyethylene have both fallen by the wayside, so in some cases, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Although fishermen enjoy brandishing the name of a given manufacturer, if the line material is "Braided Polyurethane" you're going to be happy with its performance. The difference between the performance of PowerPro, TUF and Sufix will remain an ongoing debate, which is testament to the fact that any difference is illusory and benign. I personally use and love PowerPro braided polyurethane, in fact, if there's a better line than Braided Polyurethane, I'd feel as though I were cheating :-[ Roger Quote
Garnet Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Just so you no polyurethane is plastic grocery bag made into the braid. The process to braid polyurethane is whats pattened. Garnet Quote
Guest Texas_Bass_Pro Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I pulled the trigger on some 50 lb Power Pro today. Hope I like it.Kelley You will. I have never regreated getting me some 20lb power pro. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 i have to disagree.the differences are in how many strands and how fine the strands are.the diffeences are in how they coat the lines if at all.the differences are in how round the braid is and how tight it is. Quote
hakksaw Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Well put Rolo, I've used Power Pro and Spider Stealth. I liked the Stealth better as it seemed to cast smoother after being in the water a few times. For some reason the Power pro had me casting a few yards less. Picked up some Tuf line last week and restrung a couple of reels. Clearance priced and couldn't pass up a heck of deal! Never tried the Tuf-line. Curious. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 PowerPro is the best....Period. JT Bagwell Quote
