I just got a new reel and want to put 15lb fluro on it.  This is my first reel that has a drilled out spool.  Is it ok to thread the line through the holes so that there is not chance of slip, or does that create some other problem?

I HAVE DONE THAT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.  BUT I ALSO FILL UP MY SPOOL....OTHERS MAY NOT DO THAT AND WOULD RECOMMEND NOT USING THE HOLE.   IF YOU LET YOUR DRAG RUN ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF YOUR SPOOL...I WOULD SAY NOT TO DO THAT.  MIGHT CHANCE LOSING A BIG FISH.

I attach all line with an Arbor Knot and I do not go through the drilled holes.

yeahi have asked my local tackle store guy (cant count the years of experience) and he didnt recommend it.  he also used anarbor knot like RW said too.  my thoughts are if the holes are not smooth or rounded out, that sharp corner has the potential to cut the linethere.  i jsut wouldnt do it personally.  the arbor not is more than suffice.

I tie through the holes, and so far I've yet to have a fish run out my entire spool so you would probably be safe doing that.  Chances are, if you hook a fish that will run out your entire spool, your 15# line probably isn't going to hold up anyway.
