bugman Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 In the past year I've been using copoloy lines like Yo-zury on most of my reels. My crankbait rod is a 6'6" croix Avid MH/M. I'm thinking that a line with more stretch would be better for cranks. What is your favorite line and what lb test for crankbaits? Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 I like 10lb Trilene, XL for most applications, XT for shallow snag infested waters, has just the right ammount of stretch, low cost, available every where, and is the ultimate in reliable fishing line. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I prefer 8-10 lb Seaguar Invisx........... ;D Quote
Shadcranker Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 10 lb P-Line CXX Premium (green). Very abrasion resistant, casts well, and the 10 seems to have the strength of 14 of other brands. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 exclusively. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 P-Line Floroclear in 10lb or 15lb. I have a reel spooled with 10lb Evolution and can't wait to test it out for crankbaits. I will also be puting 6lb Yozuri Ultra Soft up against my favorite P-Line Floroclear 6lb on two of my spinning reels. I am looking forward to posting my results after this season is over. Just at a first glance, I did notice that there is a line diameter difference between the two. The Ultra Soft is .0010in and Floroclear is .0092in. I have heard about Yo-Zuri great breaking strenght> Has anyone heard what the Florclear breaking strength is? Quote
bugman Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 RW, When cranking,do you back off on the drag when using Yo-zuri HUS because of the low stretch characteristics of that line? Would 10# help with the action of most crankbaits or is this line thin enough? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 I follow the guidelines on setting my drag: 25-30% of actual braking strength. I have never been broken off by a fish using Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft. I used the #10 for awhile, but when you get a backlash it is harder to work with and the kinks that are created appear to effect the physical integrity of the line. This still occurs with#12, but to a lesser extent. That is the main reason I use #12 and the fact that it has a higher breaking strength. Quote
The_Natural Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I use 8 and 10lb Clear Pline CXX. Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I use 8 or 10lb Flouroclear. When I get a good shallow crank setup I will use 14-17 either CX or Sufix or Sensation. My spinning combo will keep the 8lb, but the deep crank combo will vary from 8-12lb Quote
Super User T-rig Posted February 15, 2007 Super User Posted February 15, 2007 Again, i have to say Sunline Defier but i find Sufix Siege also a good line for the price you pay. The Sunline costs about $40 Quote
jonnylee82 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Both of the Sufix mono lines are great for crankbaits. They have a lot of stretch - too much for some. I like the Siege for my crankbaits. Quote
