Super User A-Jay Posted February 16 Super User Posted February 16 This was a bragging rights only contest held here by BR Forum members some years ago. Ran for a few seasons. It’s fun and pretty easy to do. To make it somewhat fair, bassheads are competing against the state record bass in their home state. (or the state where the bass is caught) I do realize that some states have crazy big bass at the top of the list but not all of them. From the bank, boat or wading, they all count the same. Lakes, rivers, reservoirs & streams. Goes like this . . . RULES 1. This is for FUN... 2. There are 3 divisions. Largemouth, Smallmouth and Spotted Bass. 3. Contest runs from sunrise 01 March 2025 to sunset 30 November 2025. So previous catches are not qualified, sorry. 4. Artificial bait ONLY. If you are sight fishing, the fish must be hooked inside the mouth. All fish must be caught in PUBLIC fishing areas. No private stocked ponds or Mike Long imitations. Let's just police ourselves and be proud of that. 5 In order for your fish to count, you must submit a picture of the bass, the state record weight for the state the fish was caught in, and an accurate weight of the bass. Your fish must be submitted in THIS THREAD within one week of being caught. (No sandbagging) You may submit as many fish as you want as long as subsequently caught fish are larger within each division than your previous submission. 7. Scoring of the fish shall be completed as follows: Example Your fish weight = LMB 7.5 lbs state record of where the fish is caught for example Kansas state record = 11.80 lbs Your fish weight / current State record weight x 100 = your score. So in this case it’s 7.5/11.80 x100 = Your score of 63.55 (we’ll go 2 decimal places.) If you don’t have an accurate scale and you’d like to participate in this, get one. In the case of an actual tie, you both win. Now for the one time Entry Fee – You must insult me at the beginning of your first post/entry. Go for it and lay it on thick, I can take it. No need to claim whether you’re in or out. Just post’em up when you get’em. It’ll be a while before I can add anything here but I’ll be watching . . . . Good Luck (well, not really) A-Jay 11 3 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted February 16 Super User Posted February 16 So you want me to apply mathematics? You’re such an optimist. 1 12 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 16 Global Moderator Posted February 16 This must’ve taken place quite some time ago. I’ve been here eight years and never seen it. Either way I like it! Are we going on the honor system or does a picture of the weight need to be attached? Either way, “how much does this fish way” entrants need not apply. 😁 Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 16 Super User Posted February 16 @12poundbass If I remember correctly, I think we posted pictures of the scale weight along with the fish caught back in the day. Quote

Some deals aren't set up for too much more. So a pic, the weight, and the score calculations is fine for me. I hope there are some real giants posted. Along with a little trash talk. 😃 A-Jay 4 Quote

VolFan Posted February 16 Posted February 16 My score at 27.4 is still higher than Andy’s IQ. And I’m cheating to get the thread going! And it’s my wife’s old fish! (NC: 4.35/15.875 * 100) 12 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 16 Global Moderator Posted February 16 @Bankbeater The size of your bass divided by your state record (of that particular species of bass) and multiply it by 100. 1 1 Quote

So in this case it’s 7.5/11.80 x100 = Your score of 63.55 (we’ll go 2 decimal places.) We have an annual fishing contest in my office/district that follows a format similar to this. It's based on the North American In-Fisherman Master Angler status and regions, and qualifying freshwater species. We just finished year 26 of it in December. Each entry requires a photo submitted which clearly shows the length for entry. Then that length is based on what In-Fisherman considers to be a trophy of that species in the region it was caught. For example, a 27 inch walleye is gauged based on a 30 inch walleye, and you do the math from there for your score. Usually takes an entry close to 100% to ensure the win. I entered 3 fish last season (crappie, largemouth, tiger muskie) in 2024 and they all scored between 91-96%. I came in second place. First place receives a traveling trophy with their name and winning fish/size on a plaque and you get to hang it in your office/cubicle for a year. 2 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted February 16 Super User Posted February 16 I remember this. This sounds like fun. However, let me state that Western Washington formally withdraws from this competition - effective immediately, because we don’t an iota of a chance of winning, 😂. J/K 1 Quote

Functional Posted February 17 Posted February 17 This thread may finally drive me to go to a few of the "heavy hitter" lakes here! I really like this idea, dividing by the state record kind of evens the playing field so Florida and Texas dont dominate the rest of the country. I do hate that they count records from "farm ponds" in my state though. Its a record...but is it????? 1 Quote
