Super User Darth-Baiter Posted February 15 Super User Posted February 15 I leave for a vacation bass trip in a week. I am packing early. my soft plastics are in the original clam shells. it takes up a monumental amount of space. I want to take them all out and put them into zipper type sandwich bags to save the room! will I distort them beyond use? hate to get there only to have stick baits and a wad of melted expensive Japanese baits. I dont have any ELASTEC stuff. OSP baits, Fat impacts, etc. I know Yamamoto Flapping hogs are okay in a crunched up baggie. if I dont get this down into a smaller package, I will have an huge luggage. yuck. 1 Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 15 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 15 No problem. If the baits are stored like that for a long period, then they will distort. But a week? Naw. You're fine. 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted February 15 Super User Posted February 15 When I fly south of the border I use 1 carry on and 2 checked bags. The carry on (top camo) is a sling back that has travel documentation and my reels. Middle bag is my tackle bag but for the travel I load it with my clothes. Don't need much. The bottom (suit case) is my tackle - need more of that. Once I get to the lodge I switch the tackle from the suit case to the tackle bag and hang my clothed in the room leaving an empty suitcase. Of the trip home I simply reverse the process. Small private air to the lodge has 'weight limits' so I have to keep my whole load under 40 lbs. Most everything get re-packed into zip-lock bags. Easily the biggest challenge with every trip. Good Luck. A-Jay 4 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted Wednesday at 06:21 PM Author Super User Posted Wednesday at 06:21 PM well, I am packed. except my toiletries. thanks for answering my question. I minimized for sure. I will have one checked bag and one carry on. BUMMER. my trip advisor from the guide service suggested I check my reels. she said, she is starting to meet TSA agents that one allow fishing line inside the passenger compartment. WT..? I dont love the mental image of me stripping line (I already spooled up fresh stuff) at the TSA line, not wearing my belt, shoes, hat..hahah.. all my reels fit into a survey gear bag that is HIGHLY padded. I am not sure I am wiling to roll the dice. Quote

In my experience as long as you don’t have liquids with you TSA could care less. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted Thursday at 06:09 PM Super User Posted Thursday at 06:09 PM TSA for flights for international are more strict about having line on reels in your carry on. Domestic flights don't seem to care. My argument with them is that fishing line is no more dangerous than the belt you wear or the shoe laces in your shoes. 1 Quote
