So my wife and I went to BPS to buy a new rod that they didn’t have which is no big deal, I’ll just order online. But I also wanted to checkout the Plano edge series tackle boxes but the price was more then I wanted to spend. I saw the Plano guide water proof boxes which I ended up buying which was much cheaper. Question is, is the edge series worth the money? I wanted to find something that would keep my hooks from rusting. Anyway any input is appreciated

I just use the Plano Pro-Latch and put a few silica-gel packs in one of the compartments...works well for me and very inexpensive.

I have tried many tackleboxes and didn't like any of them. The waterproof tackleboxes are the worst. They're harder to open and close and inevitably, some water gets inside when you do open them in the rain or to stow a wet lure. Then, because the box is waterproof, the water is trapped inside and every hook starts to rust. You can, of course, open your box at the end of every trip, but if you forget one time, your lures are stored in Rust City, U.S.A. Not even the silica sleeves will save those hooks.

Caveat: I do fish from a wet canoe and I love to fish in the rain.

I have an Edge 3700 Terminal Tackle i got off Amazon on sale around $25.

Its nice, but no where near worth what i paid for it. To think they charge around $50 for it is ridiculous. Everything is cramped too, the spaces are thin, the included inserts dont hold much, and the tray is now warped even though i havent taken it fishing. It stays in the fishing room....

I also hate the latch, it can easily be opened and everything falls out. And closing it can be hit or miss, sometimes it closes and other times it only seems like it.

The other Edge series for multi purpose stuff that cost around $25 look nice, but they really dont offer anything that makes the cheaper Planos obsolete.

I just buy the 3600 and 3700 Plano's from Walmart for $4.5 and $5, buy a pack of 200 desiccant bags for $10 and call it a day. These prevent rust better than anything, and even in my Edge box, i still have a bunch of these in them.

The ones you bought will work just as well. Also, kastking sells the same as the edge, only alot cheaper. they are on amazon.

I won’t spend $$$$ for Edge boxes.  I used Pro Latch until I discovered BPS now uses Plano for their house brand.  They’re made in USA and I believe I paid $7.99 each for the 3700 size.

The Bait Monkey makes sure I buy baits at a faster rate than the hooks can rust.  Problem solved.

The only Edge box I have is the terminal tackle box.  It's good, but doesn't hold nearly as much as I'd like.  I found it on sale or I'd have never purchased it.   I wouldn't buy any of the other Edge boxes.  I'm sure they're good boxes, but just not worth the premium price to me.

Are the Edge boxes worth it? That's subjective. It depends on what you want to accomplish.

I just swapped over to the Edge boxes (3600) so I don't have any "on the water" practical experience. However, they are more robust than the Stowaway series. From what I've read, the Kast King boxes are similar with a different latch design but not on even ground with the Edge series quality of materials. I previously used the Stowaway boxes and they didn't have any major issues and are budget friendly.

The way I look at it is this. You can drive nails with both a $5 hammer and a $50 hammer. I personally don't like using inferior tools or "make do" tools. I like to use the best that I can afford so that there aren't any failures or design defects that effect performance. This is from someone who has swung a hammer probably into the 7 digit range though my working career. The guardrails for this approach is budget.

My assessment - So far, so good.

I shared above how all my tackleboxes have disappointed me, so for 2025, I'm going old school and basically bought the box I used as a kid. Here:

Plano 2-Tray Tackle Box - Blue Metallic/Off White, Size 14-1/4" x 8-1/2" x 7-3/4"

It'll be easy to open to dry my lures after each trip and there's only one latch to open and close it. Plus, it has a handy handle for trips through the woods.

Unlike my past tackleboxes, I won't have to pull a utility box from another container and my waterproof utility boxes had three latches. So, to simply find a lure, I had to release two clips, unzip, extract a box, and release its three latches. I could have caught a bass in the time it took to do all that!

I know I won't look cool in my old school canoe with my power fishing spinning rods and old school tacklebox, wearing my deeply stained pants, but I'm cool with being uncool.

Well worth the money... Dividers are much easier to use and don't warp like the older clear Plano boxes... They are well built and should last many years..

I'm looking to label some boxes for my non-boater bag, but I'm thinking of doing it differently.  On yours, I bet after a trip or two, you reach for the 'long name', the 'short name' etc ....not needing to read the label.  I'm thinking some colored dots may work, or a similar quick reference system.

X2 as far as convenience goes. They have their place but they are a PITA to open & close.

I like the way you label your lures. "Flap Slap" made me laugh. What does it mean?

That box  contains mostly Megabass Flap Slaps. The front row has some other Megabass offerings.

The other 3 boxes are crammed with 110 & 110 Jr.'s.

I have well over 200 storage boxes, mostly the Plano ProLatch and I recently picked up 30 more of a Chinese brand from a fly fishing shop going out of business;  .25 cents each and just as good as the Planos.    I keep some dry packs in every box, but I still leave wet lures hanging in the boat until they dry.  Works for me.

I think they are worth it when they are on sale but otherwise, not so much. I do like the KastKing knock off. The plastic lid is not as nice as the Planos but the latch is great. It's easier to use and so far my baits have stayed nice and dry.

Bass Pro also has those old style boxes with the blue rust protection dividers I really have not had any trouble with them at all. Sometimes Walmart sells a couple styles of them too.
