Large pelagic fish?

LOL 😂 LPF stands for "Location, Presentation and Fish" if you don't have all 3 at the same time, well you know the outcome.

Super power?  Probably not any, to be honest.

If there is one thing I'm decent at, it's dragging worms, texas rig style.  It was the first artificial lure I learned about when I was eight years old, and usually, when all else fails, I can catch something, with something as simple as a black zoom worm on a texas rig.

I'm no Bill Dance (he's the worm technique master), but I've caught my share.  My PB was on a texas rig Tequila Sunrise finesse worm underneath a structure.  On a Zebco 202, no less. :D

That would be snatching the skunk from the jaws of victory

But seriously, probably looking for small improvements and spending time trying stuff out. I notice my buddies will continue to fish the same way for years and usually when they try something new is because they saw me doing it and catch fish. I'll go out to try out small changes like straight fluro vs braid to leader for a certain application just to see which rod and reel combo I prefer for specific presentations.

I'll go down rabbit holes, look for (quality) reviews and info online. and eventually come up with a plan to validate an idea. Maybe it's because it's the same process I use in my actual work. Or maybe it's because I have a lot of free time, a stable internet connection, and zero self control mechanisms... Who knows.

My superpower? I can tell you where the fish are NOT located. If you see me on the water, your best bet is to fish somewhere else 🤣

My super powers would be persistent. I get skunked more then I catch anything. I also manage to get multiple birds nests in my reel.

BTW - like the town as I was born and raised in Worcester...Athol was a favorite biking destination when I was a kid.

We call that “eliminating unproductive water”. It sounds better!

Mine would be fishing storms and throwing bait casters into insanely high winds. When the winds are in the 25-45mph range, I'm more than just game for it. My kryptonite? Lighting.

I'm going to have to one up you.  I can tell you where the fish are not located, what they are not hitting, what depth they are not at, stop the pre spawn, spawn, and post spawn bite, and change a good moon  in to a bad moon.

Mine is trying a new-to-me lure or technique and catching fish the first time I fish it.  Every time.

Never fails.

You'd think it'd take time to learn something or gain confidence in it. But I fish something new expecting it to work right away.  Maybe that's the difference.

Losing a floating crank-bait, and being able to cast another one and snag it almost every time. Not sure if this is a super power or just being frugal. Lol

I think it's your decades of fishing hundreds of lures. Even fuzzy dice, which look like no other lure, have qualities in common with other lures, such as where and how you fish them and what a hit feels like. Plus, you carry the experiences of centuries of angling expertise in your head, given all the conversations you've had with the best in this sport.

Whatever the reason, it's a cool superpower.

Another superpower I have is being dogged. @T-Billy has it, fishing night after night. So does @AlabamaSpothunter, fishing hard through the winter. @pdxfisher has it too. I've seen him launch his little boat in the winter and I've also seen him fish from his little boat in merciless winds. Of course, other BR members also have this superpower.

I'm dogged in not launching at the easy places, I.e.  parking lots with ramps. I lug my gear through the woods and wade into water before it's deep enough to step into my canoes. So, I'm a little like John McClane. I'm scruffy and outgunned and sometimes bloodied, but I keep fighting.

I’ve hesitated to reply to the looooong thread because I don’t consider myself to be “super” in any specific skill or technique.  I pride myself on being able to pattern well, adapt when necessary, and from being a guide for so many years, good boat control.  The one thing I am better at than most is catching from the back deck.  It takes a whole different set of skills and I am very, very good from the back deck.  On one of our trips to Headwaters we had 3 in the boat.  2 on the front deck and me on the back deck.  The 2 upfront were very good sticks and literally seined the water before I ever got a shot at it.  I was steady catching fish all day.  One of my buddies turned around and commented he just couldn’t understand how I was catching so many fish, actually more than him.  I could write a long diatribe on how to look at lures, techniques, water coverage, casting areas, etc., and how they relate to the back deck and I actually was going to write a series of articles for Yamamoto called “From The Back Deck” but it was right around the time co-anglers were being phased out of major tournaments.

While true, the majority of backseaters/co’s are not competing at that big time level anyhow. Regardless of what’s going on at the top level tournament scene I think your article idea would still have value as it could apply to fun as well as tournament fishing, especially if the focus was specifically about the strategical (and psychological?) aspect of fishing from the back. I say that because it seems most related articles/videos/chats focuses on the getting started / what to expect / etiquette etc aspect which has already been discussed ad infinitum.

Agree! Write it for Bass Resource, @TOXIC.

When fishing from the shore I find getting to deeper water to be very satisfying and fun, especially when a biggun' hits the bait within a few seconds of it hitting the water. Detecting the bite and setting the hook is more of a challenge as is bringing the fish in, especially when you have to navigate through or around weeds, structure, etc. Then there's the gloat cause you're the goat: hold up your hog, show it to your buddy or buddies not on em' or at a dinkfest and say: Long bomb cast brah!, gotta get it out there!, etc. On the drizzop shizzot, want me to re-rig your rod for ya? 😁 Yep, the Long Bomb Cast.

Not sure if I'd call it a super power, but... I am semi-ambidextrous. I do most things left handed. I use right handed reels and cast with my left and reel with the right. So I never have to switch hands on a cast. It allows me to control the entry of a bait so much better. I can cast a 1/2 oz spinner bait into eight inches of water with four inches of filamentous algae growing up from the bottom start the bait moving and blades turning without fouling the bait.

FWIW, We've had the lefty/righty discussion here before.

my fishing superpower is being, normal.

Normal is subjective. Based on my experience, my "normal" is what most people would consider the "lunatic fringe" (I'm being charitable on my own behalf). 😃
