I'll be getting a new boat this spring and I am looking to purchase a trolling motor and electronics. Minn Kota currently has some pretty good discounts. My question is, does anyone have any information on new product releases that will be coming out anytime soon? Getting these at a good price is great, but I'd rather wait a few months and get newer technology if it will be available. Thanks.

You referring to the Explore series and the MegaLive 2 transducer?  I think it is a major step up from their first version, which was considered the third ranked of the big 3.  I am strongly considering buying the set up for my new kayak.  The YouTube comparisons were impressive and I didn't have an easy time picking up my lure on the old systems I had (Helix 10 and MegaLive 1 transducer).

Hey, thanks for the response. I'm actually not considering FFS. Just not interested at this point. I realize it's a huge advantage, can teach you a lot about fish habits, and make you more successful. It's just a little too much technology at this point. Maybe I'll get off my high horse someday. ;)

Specifically, I was looking at the Terrova Quest MSI 90/115. I guess my question more pertains to upgrades in motor technology or wireless connectivity, things like that. I would pair it with a couple Helix series Mega SI units.

If you are looking at helix units, then you need to know that they are discontinued and future compatibility has already been cut off. So building a boat with helixes right now means a total system change if you want to upgrade later. For that alone, I would go with the new explore, though the prices on the helixes are tempting.

The motors just got upgraded to the quest series of brushless. That’s the biggest upgrade they will get anytime soon.

Old boat had Garmin Echomap. I was going that way...then my brother went Humminbird on his boat...Helis 9's and Ulterra. Fished with him many times...and really grew to like the Humminbird / Minn Kota system.

I have had my boat 1-1/2 years and not regret my move to Humminbird / Minn Kota. I don't have FFS...if I add it in the future, will strongly consider stand alone Garmin LiveScope with a Garmin screen to support.

I really like the Helix down and side imaging. I found them superior to my Garmin units. I really, REALLY enjoy having it all networked together. It's neat to mark a spot on the graph...drop the trolling motor, and select "go to mark"...the Ulterra will automatically move my boat to that mark, and when get there, automatically spot locks. Neat feature.

I appreciate the thoughts. Doing a little research, you guys changed my mind, I am going with the Xplore units. Watched a couple videos, those things look sweet! Thanks.

Not to push product, but the triple crown started today at Bass Pro. We sold 10 126 and 106 sv bundles today within the first 10 mins of the store opening. If you’re a club member, it’s 0% off now as well. Just a thought worth looking at…
