JamesR Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Here's the deal. I have about $140 left from my Christmas/Birthday money that I havent spent, and Im looking for a reel of caliber to complement a St. Croix Truimph 6'6" Medium rod. Im looking for a medium sized reel (2000,20,2500, etc....) that will be suited up with 8lb P-Line Fluoroclear, or the new one, evolution, or whatever. soooo..... Im not limited to any brand, but I dont like Shimano spinning reels that much, I own a symetre and it feels like a little womens reel. But mabye the stradic is different or something. Im mostly looking at an Old-School Quantum or a Daiwa Tierra or Capricorn. Ive heard some stories that the new quantums bail was weird, so Im sort of straying away from those. And it wont be an ebay purchase since my parents CAN NOT find out about this. And I know someone of "tackle ho' caliber" can help me out here. Thanks James Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted February 11, 2007 Super User Posted February 11, 2007 Welcome. Please reduce your signature picture to no bigger than 420pix long by 60pix high. And it can't be linked to any website. Thanks, Fluke Admin. Quote
dave Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 You'll get along better here on the forums by not making disparaging comments on any gear. I you don't like something, just say so and leave it at that. A LOT of people here use Shimano spinning reels. Stradics seem to be the benchmark for Shimano. Symetre's are basically non-Japanese made Stradic's. I own a few (2500 series) as do many members (as I have read on many posts) and like them a lot (and so do many who own them). Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 11, 2007 Super User Posted February 11, 2007 WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What does a little woman's reel feel like ? Quote
HomersTomaco Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 you wont ever find a better reel than the symetre or the stradic at there price point. Quote
castaway Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 When you get older and become secure enough in your manhood, you could fish with a pink....Um, I meant airy red reel and be very comfortable with owning it. Ivan Quote
SCarter Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 I really likes my Symetres and they seemed to hold up well on a couple of hawgs. ??? .. Is a tackle ho somewhat the bait monkey's b***h? .. Just wondering Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 12, 2007 Super User Posted February 12, 2007 If you don't care for the Stradic, you might try a Quantum Energy Pti in either the 20 or the 30 size. I have two of the Pti 20's and so far, they have been perfect. Quote
lubina Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Ive heard some stories that the new quantums bail was weird, I have 5 of those TiMAG II & III titanium magnetic bail system reels with a " weird " life time warranty bail, all have been fished intensively over the past 2 years, no one complain yet. Bud Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 What does a little woman's reel feel like ? I was wondering that also Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 12, 2007 Super User Posted February 12, 2007 Bud, Chronarch MG? : I just wish it came in junebug with a chartruese handle! In the Shimano line-up, some fans think the Symetre is the "best value," but I think the Stradic is at its pricing point. Quote
