10,000 lakes Bassin Posted January 29 Posted January 29 While scrolling through Siebert Outdoors the brush jig caught my eye. It looks quite similar to the Dirty Jigs grass wizard jig. I’m curious how this jig will work in grass, and how wide the jighead is compared to the grass wizard jig. My final question is if all the Siebert brush jigs, like the megalodon jig use the same jighead. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted January 29 Super User Posted January 29 I haven’t used dirty jigs, but I do use Siebert jigs exclusively and the brush head is my favorite. It does well coming through weeds. It may not be the best option for heavy weeds, but it comes through weeds well enough that when I’m done pitching it to brush, I don’t feel the need to change jigs when I hit the hydrilla or milfoil next. To me it’s a jack of all trades jig, and an ace at coming through brush/timber. 2 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 29 Super User Posted January 29 ⬆️ What he said. That Seibert's head (dredge brush jig) is my usual pitching jig for 'all purpose' use. I don't have a ton of brush around here but I do have a lot of grass and docks with the occasional lay down. If you're fishing strictly grass then I'd recommend one of the pointier nose versions. The swim jig, mini swim, or grass jig all come through cleaner. If you want a jig for throwing to a mix of brush and some grass then this is a good choice (as is the shot caller). Most of the Siebert heads are a different shape. Mike can advise on the differences that you can't tell from the pictures. I have a bunch of them here next to me also (shot caller, dredge, swim, G2 football, grass). 1 Quote

The brush jig comes through just about everything decently - it's as close to a do everything jig as there is! The weed guard is light enough to swim it and stout enough to flip it and it skips decently and comes over rock surprisingly well. Caught a lot of big fish on the brush jig Mike makes. Also a big fan of the grass jig/sniper and G2 offerings. Can't go wrong with anything Mike makes and his custom skirt colors have been highly effective for me on my pressured waters. 3 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 29 Super User Posted January 29 This brings up one thing (and probably just me) about Sieberts site...... I wish it had a place that had the jig head types all on one page with an explanation of each. Then you select the jig by head type and add the size and skirt color. I kind of have to have two pages open. One to figure out the variety of jigs and then a page open to order from. 1 1 Quote

If you run into heavy weeds this is where you may want to switch to a Grass jig or one of our Tungsten punch rigs. The Grid Iron Brush jig is one of my top sellers. The Owner XXX strong hook is one thing that sets it apart from many others. Just going off the pictures I'd say my brush head is thinner on the sides. Fishtank please PM me of ideas of what you are looking for. I'll see what I can do within the parameters of the website. 4 1 Quote

That hook on your arky jig put lots of nice ones in my boat this fall. I’m also excited to try this style jig head with a 7/0 hook and a magnum rage bug. Thanks! 1 hour ago, FishTank said: This brings up one thing (and probably just me) Not just you, I’d love something like this also! Quote

woolleyfooley Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Interestingly enough I’ve had the exact opposite experience as many of you. For me the brush head works extremely well in laydowns and brush piles, but has a hard time coming through grass/vegetation. I was recommended to switch to the grass jig by several members (and even Mr. Siebert himself) in a thread I started recently. Maybe reading it could help you as well. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/263681-fishing-jigs-in-grass/ Quote

If I’m fishing grass beds then the brush jig isn’t what I’d want. In your other thread you specifically said you were fishing grass. If you’re fishing brush that’s around grass or are in an area where there are clumps or sporadic grass around then the brush jig will come through that. It also depends on the type of grass a little. Thin, stringy, strandy grass like water naiad tangles on stuff faster than a heavier hydrilla or pads. If the grass you have is stringy nasty stuff (or god forbid the green or black filamentous algae)then just go straight to a pointy nose swim jig or light punch rig like a jay showed in the other thread. 2 Quote

Its all in the amount of grass and type. If the brush isnt pulling through its time to switch. That Grass jig is awesome in the grass. 2 Quote
