Best NRX+ Dock Skipping Spinning Rod

Any suggestions/insight here? Currently own the NRX+ 852S and absolutely love it. If I grab another I’d like something shorter, but not opposed to another 852.

Mainly throw weighted wackys and 3/16 shakey heads, but want to expand into other finesse techniques this season.

Other than the 852, I own a P5 Addermine. Want to add a third to complete the lineup. I do fish a good amount of docks throughout the year but open to longer rods for free rig/more open water techniques.

 

Only would like to hear suggestions from the NRX+, Megabass, Daiwa, and higher end JDM lines. Thanks!

So you are looking for a shorter, more finesse oriented spinning rod in the NRX+ lineup?  I would look at the NRX+ 821S NRR and also the 822S DSR.  The 821 is going to have a little faster tip vs the 822 going to be slower with a more moderate taper.  I prefer the 822S personally, but both are great rods.  If fishing more light finesse jigs and t-rigs, I would lean towards the 821.

I think I already have the addermine to cover for the ML applications. Was primarily looking for a shorter dock skipping rod.

 

I guess I could narrow it down to the 802S JWR, 842S SJR, and the 843S SJR in the NRX+ line. Not sure what the difference is between the JWR and SJR at those shorter lengths. Had a 902S SJR for deeper water applications but was way too noodley for me.

For skipping, I like the 803S. It's short and powerful. I am able to skip a 6in senko with it fairly easily.  So if you are wanting something to complement the 852S with something that can do a little more stuff on the heavier side, these two make for a good one two punch. 

 

Another suggestion, but not quite as sensitive as the NRX+, is the Megabass P5 Windbuster. It is longer but it sort of a good do all rod.  It handle a 1/4oz weight and a 4in DoLive Beaver with no issues. 

 

For the lighter side of things the two mentioned above, the 821S and the 822S would be good as well.

I didn’t even consider the 803 at first. Don’t have any experience with that one either. What are the differences between the 782SJR, 802JWR, and 803JWR? I’m assuming the JWRs are gonna be very similar to the 852 I own but just shorter? Have no idea how the 782SJR would feel.

 

Between the 802 and 803 which applications shine best for each rod? I’m really only trying to haul at MOST 3-4lbers out of shallow water like docks or pads up here in WI.

 

My 852 would be my main do-it-all spinning rod shallow and deep. Wanted something I could permanently keep a weighted 5” wacky senko or neko rig on for docks. The 852 could compliment it in the shallow water applications like if I’m skipping a senko with one rod and wanted to start dragging a shakey head behind the boat without wasting time I could swap right over to the 852.

@UmairF The 872S has a softer tip and is a fast rod (more moderate). I use that one for small jerk baits, drop shot, and small swimbaits.  The 803S has an x-fast tip and more powerful middle than the 852S but when you get to the bottom of the 852S is just as stout as the 803S. Also, the tip on the 803S is easier to flick, which is why I like it for skipping.

I own the 802S.  Personally don't like it at all.  I gave it to my son since he is younger and doesn't care much.  Nothing about the action feels great to me.  Kinda dead in the hand imo.

Interesting! So the 803 is obviously more powerful than the 852 but when you say it flicks better for skipping, do you mean the tip section is a little softer than the 852?

Sorry about the confusion. What were your intended uses for the 802? Would you be happier with an 803 based off of @FishTank response?

Never had hands on an 803, so I cannot comment.  The 802 was my first Loomis spinning rod, and I bought it not knowing about the 852.  I would have bought the 852 had I known what I know now.

@UmairF  I wouldn't say the 803C is softer. It just loads differently.  It seems slightly more powerful when fighting a fish. I also roll cast when I skip with this rod.
