Hello all,

I am running straight braid on a swimbait rod, i target bass but where i fish pike are common and muskie are relatively commom, i want to attach a leader but the swimbaits i use are between 3 and 6 inches so a 100lb tyrant flouro leader may be a bit overkill (the crimps/other hardware) also seem to deter bites. What is the lowest flouro i could get away with for a leader that would improve my chances of not being bit off ??

If im not mistaken, fluoro no matter the size is a no go for preventing bite offs.

100lb might reduce it a bit or a lot but not prevent it.

Tieable wire like @WRB commented will. I finally just picked some up last night because im sick of these pickerel and pike taking my hard earned money, after i took it first to buy new lures!

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Even if the water is super clear, you'd have to go with a thick fluoro for it to make a difference. It may not cut as easily as braid, but that dosen't mean you won't loose fish and lures if a toothy one does a 180 with its mouth open.

@WRB or anyone for that matter that has used the knotable wire, have you noticed a difference in the amount of bits you get when using the wire? Obviously some species are different but does it seem that fish get finicky when using wire?

Because of visibility; not that I notice.  But certain lures don't retain their action....jerkbaits and jigs for me.

It's  not cheap but when I add up the prices of baits NOT Lost to toothy critters, it pays for itself in short order.

Sort of like a disappearing deductible.

Uni to uni. All I use for this.

4 turns with the wire and 5-6 turns with the mainline.

FC or Braid.

Clinch knot (2-3 turns) or Uni knot.
