volzfan59 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Saw a YouTube video last night, Rick Clunn in a new Tracker Savage 215, 21’ aluminum bass boat, V-hull, rated for a 250, tandem axle trailer. I thought that it was a great looking rig. 7 Quote
Cuivre Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Good for them! I always wanted to see higher HP rated aluminum rigs available. Too many of them don't have the same HP rating for the same size fiberglass rig. They still have to overcome the Tracker name as being seen as a "Noobie Rig". Seems many of the Tracker boat operators I see on lakes don't have a lot of navigation, handling and safety knowledge. Tracker was my first rig (and several of my friends), so I realize I learned a lot from that boat, and others who "mentored" me when needed. 1 Quote
Junger Posted January 22 Posted January 22 @volzfan59 If you put Rick Clunn in any boat, it's gonna be a great looking rig! It's already up on their website: https://www.trackerboats.com/bass/savage-215.html Just taking a quick look, the driver console looks a little odd, and it doesn't look all that convenient if you wanted to go with 2 graphs at the helm. The estimated speed with the ProXS 250 is 68-73mph, if I'm on big water and I see a Tracker blow by me, my ego is going to be a little bruised! 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 22 Super User Posted January 22 looks like a redo on the big V bass rigs to compete with the pro-v bass and others. They had the tournament V18 and V17 in the past. TBN rebuilt a TV18 into a stunning boat. I think tracker was actually ahead of the game on that one. Now that glass boats with a 250 are coming in well over $100k, a 21' aluminum boat at half that is pretty tempting if you want that type of thing. 3 Quote

Johnbt Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I just did a Build Your Own with a 250, power poles, better batteries, better fish finders, jack plate, and some other stuff. Total $69,490 1 Quote
GReb Posted January 22 Posted January 22 $69k for a tracker? Not a chance. I see nice used fiberglass boats still under warranty for much less I just saw a loaded out brand new Cougar for $79k that had Helix units, Ultrex, power poles, mega live, etc. 1 Quote

Super User GreenPig Posted January 22 Super User Posted January 22 I saw that 215 the other night. I wonder if it's still got the fine plywood front deck. 1 Quote
Johnbt Posted January 23 Posted January 23 "SOLID, COMFORTABLE DECKS Boat decks have to absorb heat, vibrations and sound, retain fasteners, remain firm underfoot and last for the lifetime of the boat. We use ¾-inch 7-ply marine grade plywood, covered by our limited lifetime structural and deck guarantee, because it fulfills these requirements better than aluminum." www.trackerboats.com/quality-manufacturing.html 1 1 1 Quote

I saw that it was $47k+ with the standard 150. I know that times have changed, but I’m just not going to spend that kind of money for a boat. Quote

Super User FryDog62 Posted January 23 Super User Posted January 23 Would be interesting to see how an 18 foot version of the Savage would compare with either the Lund PVB 1875 or Vexus AVX 1880 - layout, features and price, etc. Vexus starts at $42k, wonder if a similar Tracker would come in under $40k? 1 Quote

I can't believe some boat manufacturers are still using it in this day and age with stronger, lighter, more durable materials available. Tells you all you need to know about Tracker right there. 1 Quote

I've been looking at that Cougar way too much. Before I bought that Tracker I'd get a ProV Bass 1875. Quote

If that’s not accurate that’s good they are all aluminum. Tracker is known for being behind the eight ball when it comes to using wood. 2 Quote

Super User gim Posted January 24 Super User Posted January 24 I intend to go to the Mpls boat show this weekend (it started today). I will check this thing out if they have one there. Quote

Is that it, or are they just the "economy" rig? Every tracker model I've ever seen has bargain basement equipment in it that looks like it was installed on a Friday afternoon 5 minutes before quitting time. Quote
Capt Ed Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I don't understand the Tracker shaming. They're probably responsible for getting more first timers on the water than any other brand. Great price, lots of features for the money, and water ready when you pull it out of the lot. Not everyone's ego requires a Lund or BassCat to be happy. 8 Quote

Not everyone's ego requires a Lund or BassCat to be happy. There is no shame- simple evolution of boatsmanship. Like I said, I started out in an old 1981 BassTracker III with a 50 hp Merc.-which I bought used from a buddy for $2000 or so. I learned a lot in that rig, and was TAUGHT a lot, due to having an open mind and being receptive to comments and experience. I also learned what I didn't like and want....from my local aluminum welder. He told me it was like trying to weld a beer can, and all the floor crossmembers needed to be welded due to them stress breaking. But, it is the same with their Ascend kayaks- folks go the easiest route, and Bass Pro Shops are usually that niche for that brand. Once they see what else is out there, they typically upgrade, as long as they stay in the sport. Quote

For a first time boat owner, they are worth a look. I looked at one closely when I bought in 2015. After some serious deliberation, two items led me to remove them from the potential list: proximity of dealer/service, and lack of customizable options. I don't particularly care for wood in boats anymore with better, more durable components available, but it is what it is. BTW I did not see the new model being discussed here at the Mpls Boat Show. I looked for and asked about it. Quote
